Economic changes after the war will shape small towns and their future. Returning soldiers and war industry workers from rural communities face must rejoin farm and town life. The town and surrounding farm must cooperate to sustain workers, markets, services, education, and social structure, ensuring towns remain attractive to recruits and residents.

Four Routes Selected As Alaska Feeders

Four Manitoba highways slated as postwar feeders to the Alaska highway will need 200 miles of paving to become usable routes. Minister Erwick F. Wills announced at Regina that Manitoba will seek federal aid to complete Nos. 14, 16, the Trans-Canada stretch Brandon to the Saskatchewan boundary, the Ever-Breen route, and No. 10 to Clear Lake. Each prairie province will pick its feeder routes and request Ottawa funding.

Home and School Association To Meet

The first meeting of the Home and School Association will be held on Monday, Sept., 20 at p.m. in the school auditorium. Features include introducing new teaching staff, a parent talk on what a parent expects of the school, and a teacher talk on what the home may expect of the teacher, followed by a social hour and tea.

The Postmaster General urges Canadians to mail Christmas parcels early for overseas service members. To ensure timely delivery before Christmas Day, mail should be sent not later than November 1st, an advance of ten days from last year. Mrs E Cryderman and Mrs McMurray hosted a post visit in Grand Narrows while local threshermen expect to begin season work by week’s end if weather cooperates. A weather delay on September 7 halted the planned women’s quilting at Mrs Wilson’s. the group now reschedules for September 17 along with the monthly meeting.
