Manitoba Public Accounts Show 2005 06 Net Debt Drop and Surplus
Manitoba's 2005 06 public accounts report a $151 million reduction in net debt and a $375 million surplus on a summary basis including the consolidated government reporting entity. Finance Minister Greg Selinger highlights tax cuts and investments while debt repayment and pension liabilities receive an extra $110 million. Net debt to GDP falls to 25 percent in 2006 from 29.4 percent in 2004. The province also records a $31 million surplus under the Balanced Budget Act, $28 million above the budget projection, with no FSF draw.

A rollover on Highway 10 two kilometres north of Minto at about 3 p.m. August 29 killed 58 year old Joan Kittson Talbot of Minnedosa. Witnesses saw her truck veer onto the gravel shoulder cross lanes and roll in the east ditch. RCMP say alcohol was not a factor and seatbelt use is under investigation.
