Goose Lake School Enrolment and Staff for Fall Term

Goose Lake School opened the fall term on Monday August 30 with 438 students enrolled including a special class. Fifteen teachers are listed across grades 1 to 8 and a special class with Mrs Davis as principal at the Elementary School and Mr Paley at the Intermediate School. Roblin to Revert to Central Standard Time This Weekend

Mayor F. A. Newton announced that Roblin will switch back to Central Standard Time on the weekend of September 12. The note urges residents to set clocks back as daylight time ends. The piece also recalls a near snow event on September 4 with snow reported in Russell and the Riding Mountains. A Russell Hospital patient, Mr. Patterson, observed children making a snowman and wondered if it was the first September 4th snowman.

Olson fills Roblin Free Methodist pulpit with world traveler

Rev. Carl F. Olson of Wessington Springs South Dakota temporarily fills the Roblin Bield and Silverwood Free Methodist churches pulpits. He is a Minnesota conference evangelist and longtime church leader who served as president of Wessington Springs College board for 13 years and traveled to Oslo Norway in 1961 for the World Conference of Methodism. He plans to present color slides on Wesley's Chapel and Epworth at Roblin on Sunday night September 12. Four of his sons hold leadership roles in education and his wife accompanies him only when health allows.

Centennial By-law Passed By Hillsburg Rural Council

Hillsburg Municipal Council met in Roblin with Reeve John Perchaluk Jr. presiding. By-law 409 to amend By-law 399 to include Roblin in the Centennial Project was approved. Applications under the Prairie Farm Assistance Act were outlined for wheat yields by township. The municipality will contribute $25 monthly to the Roblin Association of Retarded Children for Debbie Mohr’s classes. Accounts totaling $16,853.65 (cheques 1945–2000) were approved.

Obituaries for Mrs Leonard Watson and John J Langan

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Leonard Wattson at Roblin Christ Church with interment in Roblin and District Cemetery. Annie Logan Nevay, born in Glasgow, married Leonard Watson in Winnipeg in 1910 and lived in Roblin until 1946. John J. Langan, 70, of Ste. Claire Manitoba, died August 27 and was buried in Ste. Claire cemetery after services in San Clara. He served in WWI and left a large family across Manitoba and Flin Flon.

Wet weather last week halted harvest across the area with only scattered swathing and minimal combining completed. As sun returned Sunday and Monday, swathing resumed but warmer conditions are needed to finish combining.

The Ladies' Aid of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church met on September 2 with twelve members present. Rev. P Borchardt led the study on Talents and church use while Mrs. Puritch presided. The meeting reviewed minutes, approved the treasurer's report, and appointed Mrs. Puritch as president after Mrs. Wilderman left. a clothing drive for the mentally ill was proposed.

Merridale 4-H Meeting At Ann Boguski's

The Merridale 4 H Garden Club held its ninth meeting at Ann Boguski's on August 16. Twelve members and two visitors attended. Members demonstrated exhibiting vegetables for Achievement Day and prize money for rally judging was awarded to Mervin Cockerill Roxie Myslichuk Evelyn Soltys Sharon Myslichuk and Joan Syko. Roxie Myslichuk won champion and Evelyn Soltys reserve champion. A delicious lunch followed.

Regional Hospital Meeting Held At Roblin August 30

The annual Hospital Regional meeting of the Associated Hospitals of Manitoba was held in Roblin at the Elks Hall on Monday August 30 with fifty four delegates from nine hospitals. The day covered budget talks Canada Pension Plan integration and employee benefits. John Gardner of Dauphin was elected Northwest Region chairman for 1966 and the next meeting was set for Gilbert Plains in November.
