Fourteen Teachers For Goose Lake 8 D

Goose Lake School Board held a regular meeting on September 2 confirming the engagement of Dorothy Walker for Grade 1. The full staff lists principals and teachers across grades from I to VII, with several named instructors and principals. The board also accepted the resignation of Murray McMaster, arranged Henry Zorn to finish the year, and awarded a fence tender to Albert Orke and Bob Wilderman. Various small accounts were approved for payment.

Ninth Classroom Opens In High School Here

The Intermountain Board announces a new ninth room to handle enrolment near 225, up from 165 last year in Roblin. A 45-seat bus will serve Boggy Creek San Clara to Roblin, with Mrs Reba Percha luk named ninth teacher. Grade IX will have three classrooms, Grades X XI XII two each. details to be shared at the Home and School meeting on September 21.

Feeder Sales at Ste Rose and Horticultural Meeting

Livestock feeders unable to secure cattle for winter feeding may attend feeder sales at Ste Rose on September 21 October 5 and October 19 starting at 1 00 pm Early purchase may enable stubble pasture and reduce cost of gain by one to two cents per pound Fall weather remains favorable The Roblin Horticultural Society notes its charter is displayed in the Shell River Municipal Office with chartered members listed A joint meeting with the Russell organization is set for Friday September 16 at 8 pm in the Legion Club Rooms Russell Fred Weir Provincial Horticulturist will discuss home grounds and show slides Dr J Menzies University of Manitoba plant propagation will also be covered Open to all interested in this field not limited to members

Film Council Meeting Hears Of Roblin Programs

The Roblin District Film Council will hold its first meeting on Tuesday September 13 at 8 00 p m in the church basement. Don Ayford of the National Film Board will discuss film services for the year and answer questions about availability. The council aims to provide an efficient film service to Roblin organizations and to members in surrounding communities. It also announces a new Resource Film Library in Dauphin and expanded catalogues expected from the Agricultural Office by month end.

Local visitors share weeklong stays with Chick family

Last week Mr and Mrs Ignace Chick visited with Henry Chick and their mother Mrs Malenko of International Falls Minnesota while Mr and Mrs Russell Chick and family from Karachi Pakistan called on the Chicks and traveled to Regina to visit Mrs R Chick's parents Mr and Mrs McKibbons. Several others were noted in town including Alma Chase leaving for Crescent Beach British Columbia to resume teaching, and extended visits by Dennis of Watson Sask Wildeman and McBain relatives.

Obituary notices for Eliza Robertson and an unrelated obituary fragment

Mrs. Eliza Robertson aged 82 died Friday August 26 at Winnipeg General Hospital after a long Manitoba life. she married Thomas Albert Robertson in 1903 and lived in Roblin Deepdale and Winnipeg, leaving a daughter Christina and three sons, six other relatives, eight grandchildren. funeral August 29 at Clark Leatherdale with Rev R S Lederman and burial at Brookside. A second obituary fragment notes a man born 1910 who farmed Shell River district until 1957, later in Winnipeg, with wife Dora Malishewski and five sons and four daughters plus siblings from Zelena and Sioux St Marie.

William Biluk Funeral Held in Shell River Church

William Biluk of Shell River Manitoba died in Winnipeg aged 73 after a short illness on August 28, 1960. Funeral services were held September 1 at the Shell River Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. S. Evanochko officiating. Sneath Funeral Service handled arrangements and interment was in the parish cemetery. pallbearers included John, William, Peter, Joe Biluk, Peter Menzal and Mike Fedeniuk. Biluk was born and educated in Austria before coming to Canada.

Manitoba Sanatorium Ninette Golden Anniversary Event

The Manitoba Sanatorium Ninette will mark its Golden Anniversary with a grand reunion on Sunday September 11 drawing hundreds to Ninette. Officials former staff and 12 000 past patients are expected to attend while tributes honor founders Dr R M Simpson Dr Gordon Bell Mr John Inglis Mr E L Drewry Mayor Ashdown and Dr D A Stewart who led the 1908 anti tuberculosis crusade in Manitoba.

Volunteer potatoes surprise farmers on Stauffer plot

Last fall on the Stauffer farm, harvesters left a small potato on the ground. This year the garden expanded into last year’s potato plot and the volunteer potatoes grew amid the crops. Mrs. Stauffer weighed six of the volunteers at five pounds.

Lutheran Ladies' Aid Meeting at St Matthew's Sept 1

The Lutheran Ladies' Aid of St Matthew's Lutheran Church met Sept 1 at Mrs H Zorn's home with 8 members and 1 guest. Rev P Borchardt led the sixth lesson on Prayer and Devotions. Mrs C Andres presided. minutes read by Mrs W Bach. They planned a $175 donation for church water works and a Bake Sale with a detailed committee. Closing devotions by Mrs E Andres followed a luncheon.

First Fall Meeting Held By Royal Purple Lodge

The Order of the Royal Purple Lodge held its first regular fall meeting on Thursday September 1 after a pot-luck supper. A $75 donation was approved for the Purple Cross Fund.
