The Ladies Auxiliary met in October with 22 members present. They scheduled November card parties Poppy Tea Bake Sale and wreath laying at the Cenotaph by Mrs. B. Alex. An executive meeting will be at Mrs. Rurak’s home. Men joined for Remembrance Day and November socials were set for Mrs. Leitz Livingstone and McFayden.
Public schools and essential services only operate on Remembrance Day Tuesday November 11 with a two minute silence. Special work permits may be granted for non exempt areas. schools may observe commemorations November 10 or 12. liquor sales and non essential entertainments banned. permits possible for non serving sale of liquor for events.
Premier Ed Schreyer expressed interest in paintings by Belle Busch of Shellmouth during his Japan visit, displaying her Crocus works at the Canadian Pavilion for the World Expo in 1970. Busch, largely self taught since 1952, paints Manitoba landscapes and still lifes, with multiple pieces held by dignitaries and galleries.
Roblin hosted Ethelbert Thursday with senior boys and girls teams. Girls won 15-0 15-12 15-6 while Veronica Kozak powered 26 of 30 serves. Boys took 15-2 15-7 15-1. Cross-country at St Rose saw Roblin finish 1st boys and 4th girls. top five include Jerome 16th, Chartrand 17th, Gauvin 2nd, Bernaruik 8th, Mailhot 28th.

Roblin council met October 9 1969 with Mayor Giles and five councillors. They approved minutes and accounts, considered subdivision plans, granted funds to Dr F L Skinner Memorial and Roblin Chamber, urged highway improvements on PTH 83, approved Mayor travel expense, hired Sam Fitkowski as arena caretaker, and accepted Lawrence Dietrich’s bid 855.52 for a new public address system to be installed by November 10 1969 with warranty through December 31 1970. Building permits were issued for a porch and a garage.
AgRep urges orders now for shelter belt trees at Indian Head station Saskatchewan. Plant list includes Manitoba maple green ash American elm Siberian elm caragana poplar willow Russian olive villosa lilac honeysuckle Colorado spruce Scots pine. Manitoba Agriculture offers prompt feed analysis with ration recommendations for cattle. Warble grub losses in Alberta Saskatchewan could total about 10 million dollars yearly. Grain overload in livestock rising with move to feed lots. advised to adjust feeding programs.
The Roblin Horticultural Society met October 8 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kelly with 30 members present. President Jean Van Crecht chaired. September minutes and the financial report were read. correspondence included notes from Burke McNeill in Milton Ontario and a Russell Society invitation.
The Brandon regional development meeting gathered representatives from all five regional corporations including Parkland to map a provincial economic plan. Eight goals target employment growth equitable incomes resources and services with local participation and funding pledges from provincial and federal levels. Plans will be developed and implemented over several years starting now.
A public service message urges immediate extinguishing of cigarettes and proper ash tray use to prevent forest and grass fires. The PSA cautions against tossing still burning embers from vehicles and emphasizes responsible smoking cessation.
Roblin voters turnout 511 ballots, 39 percent. Charlies Brade led with 245 votes, Wilfred Nash 235, winning two year terms starting 1970. George Kostick 229 and Borden Hawryluk 221 followed. only 24 votes separated the top four.

Rose Luchuk, Margaret Luchuk, and Marney Jolliffe visited parental homes. Whyte family from Minnedosa dropped by Ernie and Mrs Bennett. Phyllis Ostrowski from The Pas visited her parents. Ward couple traveled to Killarney to be with Donna Cameron hospitalized after a car crash. Henry Chick and Ig nace Chick stayed with relatives in International Falls while both are in Memorial Hospital. Rev John Oldham and Mrs Oldham attended a United Church Conference in Brandon with his parents visiting their daughter.
William Arnott aged 83 died October 24 1969 in Roblin District Hospital. Funeral from Tummel United Church October 27 with Rev John Oldham. interment in Tummel Deer Park Cemetery. Survived by son William J daughter in law Jean Arnott and five grandchildren. wife Margaret predeceased him in June 1969.
The Roblin Parkland Festival thanks donors and invites helpers for ushers doorkeepers and secretaries with contact via Mrs Ellen McArthur or Mrs T Giles. The event includes folk dancing at the intermediate school and high school auditorium with Professor Belford as adjudicator from the Department of Education. Clark Saunders near adjudicator status, is completing a BA Hons at University of Winnipeg this year.
Mr. M. Laliberte of Walkerburn shipped four calves totaling 540 pounds on June 22, 1987. They sold at five dollars per hundredweight for a gross of 27 dollars before shipping costs of 4.19. After fees, Laliberte netted 22.81 for the lot as a remark on cost of living.
Nelson and Grace Skomarowski announce the birth of their son Thomas Michael on October 19. He is welcomed as a brother to Mary Angilene.
