Hospital Aid Whist Drive Winners

A Roblin Hospital Aid whist drive on Thursday October 23 in Mr Kozaks building drew 19 tables. Winners included Miss Dessie Cranwell and Mrs Clark Makaroff in Ladies. Mrs Carl Andres and Mr J Hajavitch in Gent. Consolation went to Miss White and Alex Cameron. Travellers prizes went to Mrs W R Scott and Mrs A Ross. Prizes donated by local businesspeople. organizers thank attendees and helpers.

Funeral Rites Held for John Hill in Knox United Church

John Hill born in Scotland died October 22 at All Saints nursing home in Winnipeg. Funeral services were held October 24 at Knox United Church with Dr. J Carlyle Parker officiating. He lived in Cromarty then served 25 years as Village of Roblin secretary treasurer. Interment in Tummel cemetery. Survived by widow Janet Bennie and siblings Frank Jean and Ann in Scotland.

Roblin Blood Clinic Draws 210 Donors

The Mobile Blood Donors Unit of the Manitoba Red Cross visited Roblin on October 22 drawing 210 donors. Three volunteers were rejected. The event was run by the local Red Cross Society led by I. L. Mitchell, Allan Martin, and Mrs. J. Adam, with the Women's Institute providing refreshments at Roblin Memorial Hall.

Hospital Notes Add Nurse to Roblin District Staff

Miss Margaret Robertson R N of Russell Manitoba joins the Roblin District Hospital nursing staff. The new wing stuccoing is underway and the electrical contractor is due to start Wednesday morning. Mrs Gleiser RN busy this week registering district nurses for the Civil Defense program. Mr I L Mitchell Mrs Irene Gleiser RN and Mrs Ina Simpson have returned from the combined Manitoba nursing and hospital convention.

George Drew Addresses Roblin on Berlin’s Democratic and Communist Sides

Colonel George Drew spoke at Memorial Hall Sunday night in Roblin describing the democratic and communist sides of Berlin. He portrayed life in Britain as a partner in the Commonwealth and a foe to tyranny. McBride Jr. chaired, with Willis and Col. Ross MP presenting. Becker and Clarke welcomed Drew to Roblin and the rural municipality.

Fowl Supper Draws Strong Community Support

The annual Ladies Aid Society fowl supper at Community Hall on Friday October 24 attracted many visitors from nearby areas. Bazaar items were varied and beautiful, with a brisk sale of homemade foods. Door receipts reached 195 dollars and bazaar proceeds over 40 dollars, marking a successful socially and financially event. The group thanks volunteers, donors, and particular helpers including Mrs Parker and Mr E McIntyre for gate duties.

Civil Defence Health Services announces a nursing census with the slogan Step Up and Be Counted covering graduate, licensed practical, and psychiatric nurses. Registration runs October 27 to 31 at hospitals and health units from 9 00 am to 9 00 pm, with forms available by mail or phone for those unable to attend.
