A Ben Tuckwell essay argues Fire Prevention Week cannot alone curb fires. It urges ongoing vigilance by individuals in towns and farms, noting weak rural fire protection and the need for constant checks of heaters, stoves, pipes, and risky premises to prevent loss of life and property.
Roblin Memorial Hall hosted Friday meetings for the Ninth Masonic District with Lodges from Benito Swan River Bowesman Dauphin Gilbert Plains Grandview and Roblin represented. District Deputy Grand Master R W Bro George Kelso led four Grand Lodge Officers with MW Bro Gordon McMor ran delivering a fine address. R W Bro achi Deputy Grand Master R Bro Robert Emmett Jr or a Warden and R W Bro Thos C Jackson Grand Secretary participated in the success.
A Roblin Hospital Aid whist drive on Thursday October 23 in Mr Kozaks building drew 19 tables. Winners included Miss Dessie Cranwell and Mrs Clark Makaroff in Ladies. Mrs Carl Andres and Mr J Hajavitch in Gent. Consolation went to Miss White and Alex Cameron. Travellers prizes went to Mrs W R Scott and Mrs A Ross. Prizes donated by local businesspeople. organizers thank attendees and helpers.
John Hill born in Scotland died October 22 at All Saints nursing home in Winnipeg. Funeral services were held October 24 at Knox United Church with Dr. J Carlyle Parker officiating. He lived in Cromarty then served 25 years as Village of Roblin secretary treasurer. Interment in Tummel cemetery. Survived by widow Janet Bennie and siblings Frank Jean and Ann in Scotland.
The Mobile Blood Donors Unit of the Manitoba Red Cross visited Roblin on October 22 drawing 210 donors. Three volunteers were rejected. The event was run by the local Red Cross Society led by I. L. Mitchell, Allan Martin, and Mrs. J. Adam, with the Women's Institute providing refreshments at Roblin Memorial Hall.
Miss Margaret Robertson R N of Russell Manitoba joins the Roblin District Hospital nursing staff. The new wing stuccoing is underway and the electrical contractor is due to start Wednesday morning. Mrs Gleiser RN busy this week registering district nurses for the Civil Defense program. Mr I L Mitchell Mrs Irene Gleiser RN and Mrs Ina Simpson have returned from the combined Manitoba nursing and hospital convention.
Colonel George Drew spoke at Memorial Hall Sunday night in Roblin describing the democratic and communist sides of Berlin. He portrayed life in Britain as a partner in the Commonwealth and a foe to tyranny. McBride Jr. chaired, with Willis and Col. Ross MP presenting. Becker and Clarke welcomed Drew to Roblin and the rural municipality.
The annual Ladies Aid Society fowl supper at Community Hall on Friday October 24 attracted many visitors from nearby areas. Bazaar items were varied and beautiful, with a brisk sale of homemade foods. Door receipts reached 195 dollars and bazaar proceeds over 40 dollars, marking a successful socially and financially event. The group thanks volunteers, donors, and particular helpers including Mrs Parker and Mr E McIntyre for gate duties.
Invites W M Auxiliaries affiliated societies and C G I T groups in Roblin and Dauphin to a rally at Grandview United Church on Friday November 7. Registration starts 1 30 p m and the C G I T session at 1 p m The Knox Church W M B will meet on November 2 after evening service to arrange rally transportation Attend and plan to go.
The Manitoba Registered Medical Librarians gathering will convene at the Royal Alexandra Hotel in Winnipeg on October 22 to 24, featuring sessions and presentations by leading librarians in the health sciences.
The cemetery committee met on October 21 to address ongoing business and plan item care. A Vote of Thanks was given to Mr. Johnson for summer cemetery work while the secretary-treasurer presented the financial summary showing receipts 1678.30, expenses 1074.93, and a bank balance of 603.37. An invitation to Halloween events at Cromarty Hall promises games for all at 7 o clock.
Civil Defence Health Services announces a nursing census with the slogan Step Up and Be Counted covering graduate, licensed practical, and psychiatric nurses. Registration runs October 27 to 31 at hospitals and health units from 9 00 am to 9 00 pm, with forms available by mail or phone for those unable to attend.
Dr and Mrs J Carlyle Parker hosted a choir from Knox United Church for a sing song and social hour after the evening service on October 38 Wives and husbands of choir members attended and the event was enjoyed by all Mrs J Adam spoke for the choir thanking the hosts
