Roblin residents hear about Armistice Day poppy sale and wreath wearings on November 13, a memorial service for WWI dead planned for November 51th at Boom, and a soldiers reunion set for November 12. Updates include travels, a dress shop sale, dance at Rebeckha, and local political meeting details.
Teachers praise improved attendance and punctuality as Grade IV pupils show good order. Vans have been overhauled and winter gear issued while muddy roads delay start times. A farewell assembly honors Annie King bound for B.C. next week. Miss McQueen schedules Roblin visits and student captains form groups. A lecture on Rome to London in the first century A.D. will be held with music and a 25 cent ticket. A Red River Women book arrives for the library. The Shoemaker and the Elves story is retold by Willie Boone Grade IV.
Born at Dauphin October 6 a son to Mr and Mrs R P McLean nee Ada Jakeman. Another birth announcement notes a birth in Boblin on Monday October 32 to Mr and Mrs. (incomplete names).
A Friday dance drew a good crowd despite conflicting Roblin events. Harry Lewis left the district on Saturday. The note warns residents that fire laws apply to fires on private property and urges fire safety to protect village scenery, urging Roy to keep fires inside fences.
The Women's Institute gathered at Mia Huht's home for talks on millinery by Miss Campbell of MA C extension. Miss Anderson spoke of China from the Mission field. King leaves Tumbl for BC due to Mrs. King's ill health. Tuxia Boys hold annual meeting at Union Church with officers elected and plans for a Halloween play discussed. lack of a community hall noted and WJ Inglis offers his vacant house for activities.
Mr Geo Davis of Grandview renews acquaintances in town. Several residents return from visits in Winnipeg Margo Russell and Kenton. Sinclair Bros ship cattle to Winnipeg. Archy Parker plans study in Winnipeg Agricultural College. Dr G P Baker visits Winnipeg on business. Box social and dance by Mylor school to aid Union Church. Church events include Confirmation Service at English church and a Harvest Festival in Union Church Makaroff. Mr J McNeill to conduct services at three points this winter.
Citizens visited Roblin last Monday to view ditching south of the N Bawlf elevator where CN rail crews are lowering a culvert under the tracks. CN R work crews enlarge the station and extend the platform. The Makaroff Ladies Aid will host a fowl and concert at the old school on Friday November 2.
Bield locals report Ross Little sold his farm and will ease into life. Port eons grain buyer moving into Bield this week. Fred McDuffe and family moved from Meharry. Contractors comment on the Shevlin bridge damaged by spring ice. School board met to consider Scrimshaw route tenders. Whittaker winner. Hall entertainment planned for Halloween to aid Boy Scouts equipment. Graham to Portage la Prairie hospital for leg operation. Boy Scouts organized with Allan McLarity as scout master. Wedding at Shortdale hall to Henry Faulconer and bride, Friday night. Assessor Harold Belcher reports difficult work. land values rising vs old roll. Residents praised for building a fine rural school site. Taxes reportedly half of last year.
The district reports continued threshing with two more days needed to finish. Sample yields are poor overall though some fields show better results. Gladys May Sangster, daughter of A C Sangster, passed entrance at Davidson Sask and earned top marks on the diploma exam after a 25 candidate cohort. Reverend P Jones led UFM hall service last Sunday and Thanksgiving is set for Nov 4 at 3 pm with fowl supper following. A Sangster returned from Winnipeg East with cattle to the Pool, prices are poor but Pool handling is praised.
Mr Walter Middleton intends taking a trip to Dryden Ontario this week. We are sorry to hear that Mrs. John Larret is sick and hope she will soon be able to be around again. A hearty welcome is extended to Mr and Mrs Leicester and your party.
Sunnyslope residents report busy grain loading and plowing as land is turned dark with work. Mrs Haight plans a coast vacation to visit her sister, while the Sherson and Hagerman sisters head to weekend homes. The Parker family travels to join Mr Parker in Saskatchewan, and Mr and Mrs Stewart visit Ransell. G Burns departs after six years, visiting Killarney and Winnipeg. Our district nurse Miss Beggs returns with hopes for another story. Children recall a near accident when Hazel and Adolf met a wild beast near Togo on the way to school. A social evening bids farewell to Allan Law and Miss Davin who move to British Columbia, and townsfolk mourn the loss of an old timer in the Law family.
