A historical note on Hugh John Macdonald son of Sir John A. Macdonald. He led Manitoba Conservatives to 1899 victory promising strong anti alcohol measures and passed a prohibition bill. Pressure from colleagues led to his resignation after less than nine months. He later became a Winnipeg police magistrate, building a respected jurist career.
