Roblin Collegiate graduates celebrate 52 honors night

The Roblin Collegiate auditorium hosted 52 grade XII graduates with speeches by principal W M Paziuk and greetings from G Gabor of the Intermountain School Board. Students received numerous awards including Peter Bugera memorial awards, Ukrainian awards, and scholarships from Sacred Heart Women’s League and the RC I. HIGHEST AVERAGE awards highlighted top academics across grades, followed by a graduation diploma presentation by Intermountain School Division officials.

Lutheran Brotherhood Grants Leadership Award To Melvin Otke

Melvin Otke son of Mr and Mrs Al Otke Roblin Manitoba has been granted a 200 Lutheran Youth Leadership award by the Lutheran Brotherhood Minneapolis based fraternal insurance society. He is enrolled for study at Concordia College Edmonton Alberta. The award is one of more than 150 youth leadership awards of 306 each to 1971 graduates enrolling in Lutheran colleges. The society also provides 75 senior college awards 500 each 22 junior college awards 300 each and 11 scholarships 1500 each to 1971 Lutheran seminary graduates as part of a 1.6 million dollar annual program for Lutheran higher education.

Livestock nutritionist visits Manitoba producers

Dr Ron McLaren of the Manitoba Department of Agriculture toured the area with Lawrence McNabb and others to urge feed sampling. He stressed cost effective rations, showed that barley protein varied from 9 to 14 percent, and urged samples now before fall and winter rush. Central Committee to Run Roblin Curling Rink

Roblin Curling Club members form a Central Committee to govern the Roblin Curling Rink. Officers elected include President Harry Oliphant and Vice President Eunice Reyda. The committee inherits a 5000 dollar debt, drafts a budget, and allocates funds to each club while clubs retain independent operations and fees.

Soil Tests On Proposed Reservoir Cottage Sites

The Advisory Planning Commission met in Roblin to discuss Shellmouth Reservoir cottage sites and soil testing. Craig Smith reported that four Crown Land sites near the reservoir were chosen for testing, with government funds available for study and leasing policy to be set by the Department of Mines and Natural Resources.

No Election In Intermountain School Division This Year

Intermountain School division reports no election as board members up for re election were returned by acclamation. Enrollment figures justify 126 teachers grant while 133 are employed, seven over grant, funded by a special levy.

Curling rink prep and turkey bingo donations noted

Eunice Reyda and others worked Wednesday evening to prep the rink for Thursday meeting and Friday bingo. Darryl Sylvester and Lawrence Dietrich arranged materials for renovations. A turkey bingo with cash prizes drew a good turnout and donations from Silverwood Community, anonymous benefactor, Mr J A Hill, and F Y Newton home materials. $218.99 paid to Parkway Co-op. bills for floor, wall panelling, wiring, plumbing remain.
