Promoters Turned Small Rail Line Into CN Northland
In the 1880s William Mackenzie and Donald Mann urged Manitoba to guarantee a 100 mile branch rail line linking farmers to markets. They founded Dauphin as the line’s terminus, expanded through survey work, and saw their venture grow into Canadian National Railways with 10 000 miles of track after mergers.
