Tonight at 8 p m in Roblin Arena a big public meeting will decide whether Roblin builds a Community Memorial Hall. Citizens will vote on location leadership and financing for the hall and surrounding districts.
The Hon. Douglas Abbott announces continued rationing of U S dollars for pleasure travel from November 16 1948 to November 15 1949 with a maximum $150 per person and $100 for children 11 and under. Permits stay required for over $10 U S or over $25 combined in U S and Canadian funds. No limit on trips provided annual allowance is not exceeded.
The United Emergency Fund for Britain announces a three week donation drive from November 14 to December 5 at its Toronto offices to fund bulk food purchases and supplies sent to Britain. The campaign unites provincial chairmen and local committees across Canada with support from government and social groups.
Fire swept the Zelena general store owned by Nick Glutyk, his home, and a nearby warehouse, 13 miles north of Roblin, early Friday around 2 30 am. Neighbors aided in rescue as two children were sheltered from the blaze and Glutyk saved his wife and eldest child. Estimated loss nears $10 000.
The resignation of Prime Minister Mackenzie King and the swearing in of Louis St Laurent caps a year of dramatic political moves. New party leaders, provincial premiers moving to federal roles, and plans for a tenth province marked a year of change. Ontario and Saskatchewan weakened, five provinces re elected governments, and Canada joined the UN Security Council with General McNaughton as national spokesman.
The Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Elizabeth welcome a baby son born Sunday November 14 at 3 14 p m at Buckingham Palace England. Both parents and the newborn are reported to be well and the couple celebrate the arrival.

Entries are carload lots of 1667 bushels minimum and may be consigned to any commercial firm. Also a Ukrainian W A Roblin bazaar and sale of home cooking is set for December 11 in the Anglican church basement.
