Canada to observe Armistice Day with two minutes silence

Thanksgoing Day and Armistice Day will be observed Monday November 8. A special observance is requested for the actual Armistice Day with two minutes of silence at 14 o'clock Thursday morning November 11. Acting Prime Minister Rébb states Canadians are invited to mark the occasion in addition to the regular holiday.

Annual Poppy Day Campaign Returns to Canadian Legion

The Great War Veterans Association hands over Armistice Day Poppy distribution to the Canadian Legion of the BLESS with over 800 branches taking part. Poppy emblems will be sold the day, memorial services held, war memorials decorated, and funds aid disabled veterans and dependents. Past campaigns raised about one million dollars.

Wedding Bells at Minitopas Anglican Church

A very pretty wedding was solemnized at Minitopas Anglican Church on Thursday at eleven o'clock. Miss Henderson of Minitonas united in wedlock with Mr. Orge Phillips of Roblin. Rev. J. Anderson officiated. The bride wore ivory crepe meteor dress and veil with orange blossom wreath, carrying American Beauty roses. She was given in marriage by her brother William Henderson. attended by her sister. The groom was supported by Leslie Fox of Roblin. After signing the register, Mendelssohn’s wedding march played as the couple left amid showers of rice.

Mrs Phillips Married in Simple City Ceremony

The couple received many gifts from friends reflecting the esteem in which they are held. The groom gave the bridesmaid an amethyst bar pin and a gold Wald emar chain to the best man. After luncheon the couple left for Swan River to begin their journey.

New Church at Deepdale Dedicated and Opened

The Deepdale community celebrated the dedication of a new church on Sunday October 25 with a 3 pm service led by Pactos presiding. Dr. A Doyle of the Manitoba Conference preached, Mrs David Mitchell sang, and Rev H T Smith delivered the evening sermon. A Friday hall supper and concert funded the building, which is nearly debt free thanks to Ladies Aid efforts. interior finishing awaits funds.

Community Notes From Treherne and Winnipeg Area

Local residents including Mr Fred Allen Mr James McEwen and Mr Alex Sinclair visited Winnipeg and Treherne last week. A newborn boy welcomed Sid and Mrs Charles on Friday morning. The Hallowe en Dance by Girl Guides drew a large crowd at Davis Hall. United Church plans anniversary services and a fish supper at the old Presbyterian church. An Agricultural Society auction, led by Mr Kaiser, attracted many bidders. Makaroff United Church Thanksgiving services announced with Rev. A E Weav ee preaching. Special offerings noted for church maintenance and extension.

Mrs Browning returned to Winnipeg Saturday after visiting her father Mr Embleton. Guests from Roblin, Tummel and Winnipeg shared in visits with local families last week and the Deepdale Ladies Aid thanked contributors for a concert and fowl supper fundraiser.

The Grand Narrows sale of work and dance on October 26 raised 203. Three Swine Club members Howard, Ve, and Orville Wilson won a Winnipeg trip. They will be joined by Mr. Handley. Wis Boys and Girls Club fair on October 26 faced bad roads but showed vegetable displays, cooking and canning, and strong poultry and live stock shows, with notable pig entries.
