In 59 years with plants he built a notable career including Maxwell Lily's Cory Cup and a hardier Dilitata lilac hybrid, plus trials of a disease resistant poplar. He plans studies in Sweden and France this summer.

Manitoba to Increase Old Age Pensions by Five Dollars

Premier Stuart Garson announced in a radio broadcast that Manitoba old age pensioners and blind persons will receive an extra five dollars in May 1947 cheques. He noted Dominion law would be effective May 1 and hinted the actual increase could exceed five dollars if the final amount is determined.

Hydro rates reduced for commercial energy in Manitoba

The Manitoba Power Commission cut the second block rate for commercial energy to 3c per kilowatt hour for May usage. The change applies to over 209 towns villages and hamlets, following a prior city cut in Brandon and Portage la Prairie. April kilowatt hours rose 31.29 percent year over year.

Fred Dangerfield owns the Dan gerfield Hotels in Winnipeg comprising the Leland Clarendon and McLaren with 256 rooms. He took over the Leland in 1923 after his father's death and acquired the Clarendon in 1981 and the McLaren in 1936. He led the Manitoba Hotel Association in 1941 42 and later chaired the Western Canada Hotel Association while serving on the American Hotel Association board.
