United Church WMS Meeting Held At Mrs Newtons

The June meeting of Knox United Church WMS convened at Mrs F Y Newtons on June four with hymn sing and prayers led by the president. Mrs Cross read May notes, discussed the Presbyterian assembly in Dauphin, fall supply allowances, and noted Waddells departure. Mrs Cross and others offered to help with fall worship and the Mission Band watch. Mrs McBain led Africa Disturbed chapters and noted African Christians moderating self serving stores, with Schweitzer leprosy work praised. Library copy of the study book and lunch by Miss Macdonald and Mrs Newton followed. No July meeting.

Don Messer Jubilee rated number one television program in Canada surpassing Ed Sullivan Show in a national Bureau of Broadcast Measurement Spring poll. The Halifax NS produced show airs weekly on CBC National Network with Massey Ferguson as sponsor since fall 1959.

Miss Olive Olfrey Honored At Farewell Gathering

Nether Church adherents in Roblin hosted a farewell for Miss Olive Olfrey on June 17. The Bethel Church minister for nine years, she departs June 24 for Roseisle to continue Pentecostal ministry. Local children presented gifts after a summer vocational school event.

Achievement Day Held By Cromarty Happy Stitchers

Fifteen Cromarty Happy Stitchers members held their Achievement Day on June 17. Red ribbons went to Audrey Coutts Linda Thompson Margaret Thompson Myrna Watson Patricia Giles JJ Markoski Dorothy Miller and Lualla Mann. Evening Guild Meeting at Mrs Staples June 28

The June meeting of the Evening Guild was held at the home of Mrs. D Staples on Tuesday June 28. Worship opened with the W A Motto and scripture read by Evelyn Josephson. Nora Cross led the prayer and welcomed visitors while Sadie Staple served as hostess. Members discussed hospital visits, a $5 donation to the Indian and Mens Fund, and upcoming July plans.

Wedding in Deepdale United Church Unites Hea ther and Fisher

Evelyn Hea ther daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas McKenzie wed Raymond Henry Fisher son of Mr and Mrs Clem Fisher at Deepdale United Church on June 24. Rev G E Waddell officiated with Mrs Walter Ward at the organ. The couple will reside on a Tummel area farm after a trip to Winnipeg and other Southern Manitoba points.

Around Town Highlights Move and Visit Notes

Dr. and Mrs. B J Lesack left Vancouver for San Francisco for postgraduate surgery study at Stanford University Hospital. Multiple families and individuals across Roblin and area travel to and from Winnipeg Calgary Ottawa and Vancouver with visits to relatives, holidays planned, and local moves noted. Gatherings include Campbell River visitors renewing old acquaintances and relatives relocating to Shell River Kindersley and Ottawa trips for summer holidays.

Prier Couple Celebrates Golden Anniversary at Roblin

Mr and Mrs George Pricer marked their 50th wedding anniversary on May 23 at their Roblin home. Twenty one guests attended a turkey dinner as a three tier cake and mums and carnations decorated the table. Nine children and 25 grandchildren joined relatives from Winnipeg Flin Flon Dauphin Regina Vancouver Edmonton Merridale and other towns for the reunion. The couple wed May 24 1910 at the bride’s home and have lived nearby since.

Frederick Wallace Dies at 60 in Deepdale District Funeral

Frederick Boyce Wallace of Deepdale died June 16 1960 at Roblin Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held June 20 at Silverwood United Church with Rev. A P Ireland officiating. Interment followed at Mountview Cemetery. Surviving are wife Nettie two sons Allan Gordon and Earl Garry and three daughters Margaret Grace Evelyn Joyce and Kathleen May along with two sisters and two brothers.

Cane blight lacks strong control. suggest new planting and reestablishing plots every eight years.

Save the Children Fund letter adopted a Hong Kong child, parcel clothing arranged. Waddell thanked for five years of service. July meeting to be at Mrs. McFayden’s home.

CKOS TV Channel 8 Opens in Dauphin Swan River Region

CKOS TV Channel 8 officially opened Friday June 24 in Dauphin and Swan River area Manitoba with over 200 guests touring the studios. Keith Alexander M L A for Roblin formally declared the station on air. Mayors from Dauphin Swan River and other towns attended and a reception followed at the New Holiday Inn Motel. Over 100 Manitoba artists performed in a live Profile program and messages of congratulations poured in from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

A shower was held June 21 at Mrs. O. C. Fisher’s home for Miss Shirley Arndt, bride elect of July 2. Guests received corsages on arrival. contests and gifts in two Dutch shoe decorations with coins and stamps were presented by Patty Eckert and Isla Miller. A dainty lunch was served by hostesses Mrs. O. C. Fisher Mrs. W. Eckert and Mrs. Walter Clement. Miss Arndt thanked everyone for their kindness and gifts.
