Roblin council okays building permits valued at 32500

Roblin Village Council met June 14 1960 with Mayor Newton presiding. They approved building permits for several dwellings a storage shed and church addition totaling about 32500 and rejected a granary move permit. Also set health officer for 1960 and arranged fire brigade funding and circus sponsorship at the village ball park.

New Church At Roblin

Members of the Ukrainian Catholic parish of Roblin and district met on Monday evening June 20 at the Ukrainian Catholic hall and unanimously approved erecting a new parish church. Rev S Evanochko presided as the meeting followed an evening service with three priests. The sermon urged the urgency of a church. Construction will start once final plans are drafted by Schaefer Plump ton Nipper Architects of Winnipeg.

Juvenile Border Baseball League Formed In Region

The Roblin Senior Baseball Club oversees a new Juvenile Border Baseball League with teams from Togo MacNutt Grandview and Roblin. Games aired include Togo at Roblin in Roblin this Friday June 24 and Grandview at MacNutt, with Roblin at MacNutt and Togo at Grandview on Tuesday June 28. Support for the youngsters is urged.

Funeral services for Elza Levi Prier were held at Roblin United Church on June 8 1960. He died June 5 1960 in Roblin District Hospital at 71 years 8 months after a long illness. Survived by wife Carrie three sons Clinton John Ralph and two daughters Edna and Alice, plus two brothers. Interment in Roblin District Cemetery.

Farewell gathering honors Rev Waddell and family in Roblin

Roblin United Church Field hosted a farewell Sunday for Rev G E Waddell and his family. Lyle Simpson chaired. performances included hymns, solos by Shirley Chase and Merle Lamb, and selections by the choir and junior choir. Gifts and a lunch followed, noting the Waddells will serve in Portage la Prairie with a new United Church ministry.

Inter Provincial 4H Public Speaking Contest Held in Yorkton

The first annual inter provincial 4H Public Speaking Competition sponsored by CJGX Yorkton was held at the Holiday Inn with twelve contestants from Manitoba and Saskatchewan presenting seven to ten minute talks on conservation. Virginia Patmore won the trophy and a transistor radio, Judy Fuxa placed second, Eileen Coughell third, with special mention for Wayne Digby.

Missionary League Meeting Held by Lutheran Women

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League held a regular church basement meeting with five members. Opening hymn and prayer preceded Romans 3 19 scripture by Rev. Borchardt. They invited Zorra ladies to attend the SWML and planned Mrs Edel to order Hong Kong material. Benediction ended the session followed by a hostesses lunch.

Roblin U C Y closes year with beach cookout

The Roblin U C Y wrapped up its year with a weiner roast at Silver Beach on June 12. Three carloads from Roblin and some from Russell joined a ball game and marshmallow roasting led by Father Pereida. After stories and a sing song everyone went home. Gratitude is extended to Father Pereida, Father Bezdel, and the drivers who provided transportation.

Cromarty Picnic at Eslinger Farm near Roblin

The Cromarty Picnic takes place Sunday July 3 at Fred Eslinger’s farm six miles west of Roblin and a half mile north, starting 2 p.m. Supper is at 5 30 p.m. Admission 60 cents for adults, 10 to 14 year olds 25 cents, under ten free.

Eighth Annual Teachers Tour of Manitoba Planned

The Manitoba Department of Education with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce plans the Eighth Annual Teachers Tour starting July 4. Forty teachers will travel about 2500 miles across about 25 communities in two weeks, visiting Winnipeg area sites and towns from Portage la Prairie to The Pas, Roblin, Brandon, and Gimli, with Inspec tor J W A Muirhead and Rod H Thomson coordinating route and schedule.

John Poucher of PPCLI demonstrates how he and his Royal Canadian School of Infantry teammates won the Canadian Army Central Command Rifle Championship at Camp Borden Ontario. Fifty top marksmen from Camp Borden Petawawa Ipperwash and Kingston competed over two days. The KCS of I team will contest the Regular Championship in Ottawa August 6 to 13.
