Manitoba United Church conference in Winnipeg and local outings feature heavily. Mary Alice Burns obituary announced. Fishing jaunts in Roblin and Oak River visitors, plus RCMP Glinz family from New Waterford. Women’s Institute plans August Flower Show and a Ritchie work exhibit with plaster moulding demo and lunch.

District Visitors Farm Community Ties Highlight Weekend

Mrs A Taylor and Mrs H Ayer met at Deepdale for several days last week. Mrs B Traub traveled to Norway House to see her daughter Lorene. Winnipeg residents Mr and Mrs Robt Beattie arrived by bus to visit I R Beattie family. Clif Sneddon and daughter from Strathclair visited relatives. Roy Wayman and Ruth from Vancouver toured with Ruths sister Gordon Pound and Roger families in the district.

Merridale Mill Starts Operations and Community News

John Cockerill's saw mill is now in operation. Mrs. Sam Syke returned from Winnipeg after treatments. Peter Midzain left for Shevlin to work on a road building machine. Mr. and Mrs. Yakimishyn visited the Rozenuk home. Sunday gatherings included Walter Midzain Hillard Chick and Peter Yasinsky with Harry Boguski. A surprise party honored Mr. and Mrs. Michael Chernecki on their 25th anniversary. The flood relief dance netted 61.51. Congratulations to Ernie Armstead and wife on the birth of a son on June 16. Roblin and Vancouver visitors stayed with Albert Johnson. Charles Bancarz’s birthday celebrated with gifts. Attendees included J Bancarz P Bancarz P Malashewski and others. Bancarz family thanks everyone for gifts.

Mrs Redman visited Mrs Isabel Irvine on Sunday. Liz Maguire is holidaying with sister Mrs M Mickelson at Roblin. Mr and Mrs L Maguire visited Kamsack to see Percy and Mrs Rose. Jim Irvine family visited Fred Wallace. Guests at L Maguire's included Billy Maguire Willis Armstead Albert Johnson Don Davis Cromarty Elsie Davis Eddy Maguire Cromarty Walter Meak Russell. ATI had a very good time. Silverwood Ladies met June 14 and plan June 28 with ice cream and lunch. Ray Clark won the prize. Mrs Johnny Nolin of Happy Lake visiting W H Armstead for a week.

Cemetery Day set for Thursday June 29 features community notices. Jimmy Christoff returns home from Flin Flon for a visit while Mrs. Leslar goes back to Montreal. Concert and Dance on June 23 at Tummel hall starts at 8. Ethel Ritchie teaches at Blue Wing for the rest of the term.

Roblin Seniors Clinch Two Defeats in League Play

Roblin seniors beat Grandview 5-6 in a tense Hall of Fame night clash then defeated Dauphin 9-7 in six innings. Vinson and Pigg formed the battery against Grandview while Means helped in the later win with Pigg. Means and Dent joined the squad as imports boosting Roblin to the top in the Northern Senior League ahead of a Friday home game with Gilbert Plains.

Knox Church W M S Marks 25th Anniversary Meeting

The June Knox Church W M S gathering at president Mrs H Cross home featured speakers including Mrs H R Mitchell Mrs F Y Newton Mrs W Edwards Mrs Geo Fisher Mrs P Kelso and others. A past president Mrs A T Kines traced the Auxiliary history as a birthday cake honored 25 years of church union. July meeting set for Mrs W Edwards home with Mrs W Kelso directing.

Rockettes Fizzle On Sunday in Region Play

The Rockettes lost their second game of the year against Togo at Stoney Creek amid a note of solid play by Rona in the finals. Kamsack fell to Rona as well. The men’s fastball suffered a defeat to Anemone with notable umpiring. upcoming dates include games with Grandview and Kamsack.

Win And Lose In League Games In Local Circuit

In Dauphin a league game Tuesday night ended 5 4 as a long fly by George Gove sent Keast home but Gove was tagged at the plate. Roblin’s pitcher was Weitzel with Pipg catching. Earlier Friday Grandview edged the locals 5 4. The team hosts a sports day Thursday and a league game Friday against the Plains.

Octogenarian William Thompson Celebrates 80th Birthday

Vancouver Sun excerpt notes William Thompson of Chilliwack celebrated his 80th birthday by flying a Cascade Air Services plane with instructor Peter Deck. Thompson, born in Headston, Yorkshire, England, arrived in Canada at ten and farmed in Roblin, Manitoba, before moving to British Columbia. Photo could not be reproduced due to transit damage.
