Town Picnic and Weekend Visits Mark Roblin News

The Town Rochedale Picnic is set for June 28. Several residents and visitors are noted including Mrs F Y Newton in Winnipeg, Miss Belle Sneden and Mr Mrs J Scott, and the Jakeman family on local holidays. A D Staple crew digs a hall opening, and praise goes to inspector Ewanchuk for a Master Degree in Education. A newborn Kenneth Lee Jake man in Russell hospital June 8 is announced. Alastair Takeman wins a scholarship, Miss Jean Belcher graduates in Veterinary Surgery, Rev Marguerite Miller to preach in Roblin. Mrs Emil Luchuk dies in Dauphin after a three-week illness. Funeral details follow.

District News at Grand Narrows and Nearby

Miss Margaret Murray spent the weekend at home. Evelyn Charters is confined with measles. The MFAC convention at Dauphin was attended by Ray Muray. Juniors plan to attend Anglican camp at Lake Madge. Several district residents visited in Kam­sack, Deepdale, and Roblin over the weekend. A seed growers club met at Framingham’s with lunch. Next meeting at Peter Sanko’s. A church service is set for Sunday at 3 with Miss Russell from Cote Mission. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Lynn Angus on a daughter. Mrs. Angus and baby returned from Roblin. visits to Swan River noted. Several residents visited Roblin and Melita. Hospital aid meeting in Roblin. Sympathy extended to Mr Emil Luchuk family. News of visitors to and from Dauphin, Gilbert Plains, and Deepdale. Special United Church service planned for Deepdale on June 18 with Rev Marguerite Miller. Flood relief dance at Silverwood Hall on June 16.

Merridale School Picnic and Local Visits Noted

Merridale held a successful school picnic. In softball Gleneden placed first with Merridale second, and in hardball Timber won and Merridale second. Umpires were W. C. Kozak and Wm. Kappie. Nearby residents and visiting families are listed among local social activity.

Picnickers at Jack Fish lake heard wild screams from the maiden voyage of the new McGill boat. Officials weighed a fish that did not match the expected 30 pound mark, though a possible record was noted as the maiden trip produced an unusual catch.

Roblin Hands Kamsack First Loss at Runnymede

Roblin Seniors surged to an 8-7 win over Kamsack in a late rally at Runnymede on Sunday. Three pinch hitters H Weitzel D Weitzel Cook came through as Roblin claimed their first win of the year, after earlier 7-1 and 11-1 victories. G Gove and Harold Keast homered for Roblin. Roblin advances to Gilbert Plains tournament today.
