Plans for the Homecoming Street Dance July 14 on 2nd Avenue beside Dee's Electric from 8 to 11 pm with the Asessippi Valley Boys performing. July 15 features noon live entertainment, a pet show, baby show, costume judging, booths, crafts, food, penny auctions and more with free setup space for sellers.

Driver of the Year honors at Winnipeg Safety Awards Banquet
A Shoal Lake resident received the Driver of the Year award at the Safety Awards Banquet in Winnipeg on May 27. Randy Slimmon of a TRANSX subsidiary also earned safety recognition for 17 years of accident free driving and won a two person trip to the Dominican Republic. The Russell Banner notes funding approval of eleven thousand dollars toward Russell cenotaph restoration. Clarence Lazaruk of Russell Squadron 677 sought millennium project grants after learning of the opportunity. Vandals damaged the cenotaph by removing the granite soldier's head last Hallowe'en.
