Farewell to D Arcy Mossing by Roblin Band Family Night

Last Tuesday June 10 Roblin Band members ex members and families plus Mayor Giles and town council gathered at Goose Lake Beach for a farewell picnic. D Arcy Mossing who started the band in 1962 left 1963 returned 1967 to teach. He received a marble desk pen set from D Arcy Keast and a wall clock from the Parent Association. Mayor Giles praised his service and Mossing urged three keys to band success instruction enthusiasm and public support. He urged greater community backing for Roblin schools and band and encouraged locals to support the Roblin School Band for the whole district.

Golf notes from regional tournaments and socials

Weekend play drew Roblin golfers to Dauphin and Gilbert Plains events. Peter Nykolaishen Frank Campbell Mike Kapetz Chic Lintick Gordon Keast and Arnold Yeo competed in Dauphin’s Men's Tournament. Liz Bruce finished second in first flight and Vera Dillin second in second flight at Gilbert Plains Ladies. Five ladies joined Friday golf socials with 1:30 tee times, coffee and lunch to attract new players.

Five Local Men Complete Four Week Electrical Course

Five electricians from this District completed four weeks of advanced training in electricity spread through the winter months. Manitoba Hydro partnered with the Department of Education and Canada Department of Manpower to provide training where opportunities were scarce. Recipients were J. N. A Hydro spokesman praised the outcome and the participants’ determination and congratulated them.

Three names appear on the Roblin ballot for June 25 election day Kawchuk Mike for NDP and former Ethelbert Plains MLA McKenzie PC Mitchell Liberal who contested Roblin previously. Voters urged to turnout and vote for their preferred candidate on Wednesday.

Second Annual Roblin Kinsmen Walkathon Slated For July 7th

The second annual Kinsmen Walkathon will be held on Monday July 7 with 8 15 a m pickup at Kin Park Goose Lake. Walkers ride to Assesseppi Hill begin an 18 mile trek to Roblin at 9 a m to raise funds for a Centenial Centre swimming pool. Entry forms are available locally and sponsors pledge per mile with per walker turning in forms at the end. Food and drinks along the route and trophies for top finisher youngest oldest and top fundraisers.

The 4H beef program held shows at Grand Narrows Bield Merridale Fummel and Cromarty with champions reserve champions red and blue ribbon winners and showmanship winners across locations. Roblin Co op buys 4-H beef club champions at Foxwarren sale

At the Foxwarren Fat Stock Show and Sale on June 14 Roblin Co op purchased 10 calves including Grand Champion from the Cromarty and Tummel 4 H Beef Clubs. Champion calf was won by Morris Butcher and Reserve by Blaine Woodhouse with trophies donated by the co op.

38 Citizens Tour Regional Farms And Facilities

The Chamber of Commerce bus tour on Monday June 9 drew 38 participants including women seniors and business and farm representatives. The itinerary featured automated Hog Barns at Norman James and Roy Gulenchyn, land clearing and the Duck Mountain Boundary Survey, a Meat Processing Plant in Roblin, St Vladimir's College guided by Rev G Sywanyk, a Beef Cattle Feed Lot tour by Steve Kurchak and Hans Olsen, and a barbecue served by the Tummell Ladies Club. Advocates M L A Wally McKenzie and Minister Doug Watt spoke on agricultural issues alongside MP Dr Gordon Ritchie. The group returned via a field demonstration by David Bruce and hoped for future industrial tours.

Plans finalize for swimming lessons July 28 to August 8 at Asessippi Beach with two instructors. Registration this week in primary and intermediate schools. Shell River Council Approves Transfer of Centennial Grounds

The Shell River Municipality approves land transfer for centennial grounds with By-law No. 2099-A passed. Rejected prior tenders for SW 1-28-28WI and re-tender planned. Roy Cockerill’s $2 050 bid for SW 1-28-28W accepted with cash and deferred payment. Fire call rate set at 50 dollars outside municipal limits. Hillsburg Council Approves Transfer of Cent Ground

Hillsburg council meets June 12 1969 with Reeve John Perchaluk Jr presiding. By law 450 transfers land for centennial grounds in joint ownership with Town of Roblin and RM of Shell River. Members to attend district convention Gilbert Plains with allowances and office closure June 16–20. Accounts approved for payment.
