Two Local Men Graduated May 30th

Two officer cadets from Roblin Manitoba graduated May 30 from the Royal Military College in Kingston Ontario. They completed an extensive program in academics leadership and athletics under the Regular Officer Training Plan and received bachelor degrees and commissions in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Togo Royal Purple Installs Officers

Officers of the Order of the Royal Purple Lodge No. 22 at Togo were installed on May 20 in the Elks Hall for the 1969 70 term. DD Lady Saher led the ceremony with PSHRS Elizabeth Fichtner and secretary pro tem Lady Stafford of Yorkton.

Kinette Fashion Show Marks First Annual Event

The Kinette Club hosted its first annual fashion show in the new Intermediate School multi purpose room on June 6. Commentators Brenda Simak and Kin President Vern Andres, with pianist Bertha Davis, showcased casual and dress wear modeled by Peggy Arnott through Mary Sorbo plus infant Marc Everett Simpson. Local businesses supplied clothing, jewelry, and decor while Albert Orke and Diane Andres won prizes. The Kinettes plan to make the fashion show an annual event.

Three Candidates Run In Roblin Provincial Election

Nominations closed at 1 p.m. June 11 for the June 25 provincial general election in Roblin Constituency. Candidates are Wally McKenzie for the Progressive Conservative Party, Mike Kawchuk for the NDP, and Jack Mitchell for the Liberals. Advance polls are June 19 20 21 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Election day voting is June 25 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Royal Purple Entertains Forty Senior Ladies Luncheon

The Roblin Order of the Royal Purple No. 210 entertained about 40 senior ladies on Wednesday evening June 5 with a luncheon and program. A trumpet solo by Billy Crabb and vocal selections by Mrs Ellen McArthur opened the event. Prizes included Mrs ArcFadyen and others for a corage, gloxinia plant to Mrs Menzal, cake to Mrs Laurie, and a plate of dainties to Miss Elsie Comrie. The Royal Lady cup and saucer floral went to Mrs Fatteicher. The 0.0.R.P. drill followed, praised by the visitors and accompanied by a closing thanks from Mrs Martin.

McGinnis Shiner Wedding at Roblin United Church

Sandra Isabel McGinnis wed David Kenneth Shiner in a double ring ceremony on April 26 at Roblin United Church. Attendants wore turquoise empire gowns, bouquets of pink roses, and the couple honeymooned at Banff before settling in the Bield District.

Roblin Gun Club June Shoot Recap and Scores

The Roblin Gun Club held its June shoot with good weather and strong fellowship. Brent Lees posted a perfect 25, followed by John Mitchell 23, and others scoring in the 20s. Manitoba Telephone System customers in the Gilbert Plains exchange will dial calls starting at 9 a.m. Thursday June 12 during a ceremony at the new Gilbert Plains telephone building. About 780 customers will gain dial service and begin using seven digit numbers in a supplementary directory.

In Roblin I introduce the local recreation program and aim to help people use leisure time well. I assist with physical education, seek coaches and umpires for minor baseball, and plan summer activities including swimming, track, arts and crafts, and a playground program.

Corporal Pamela Ferris is congratulated on her promotion. Ferris nee Booker is the daughter of Mrs. J. A. Leitz of Roblin and the late Mr. Booker. She works as a nursing assistant at Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake Alberta. The promotion was presented by Surgeon Commander J S Simpson commanding officer Canadian Forces Hospital Cold Lake.

Crystal City Couple Wed In Double Ring Ceremony

On May 17 in Crystal City United Church Rev Standret and Rev Earl McIntyre united in marriage Helen Lorraine Hanford to Donald Whitney McIntyre. The bride wore silk organza gown with peau d ange lace and a daisy crown veil, carried red roses, and was attended by three sisters in turquoise gowns. The best man was William Frizzley. ushers were Jack McIntyre and Wilfred McIntyre. About 120 guests attended a reception. the couple honeymoon in the Black Hills and Yellowstone and will reside in Assiniboia.
