Sighting Report Highlights Unusual Manitoba Wildlife

A spring roundup notes unusual wildlife in rural Manitoba including a cougar near Plum Coulee and a white faced ibis near Deleau. It cites occasional sightings, rare burrowing owls near Neepawa and Miami, increasing turkey vultures, and blooming lady slippers with contact for reports. D Day service remembered by Roblin Legion at Cenotaph

In memory of the June 6 1944 invasion Roblin Branch 24 of the Royal Canadian Legion held a D Day service at the Cenotaph. President Wes Smigelsky led the Navy Prayer Padre David Maxwell led the Air Force prayer and past president Clint Clearwater led the Army and Special Forces prayer. The invasion involved about 150000 Allied troops with 14000 Canadians among them. The Royal Canadian Navy deployed 110 ships and 10000 sailors while the RCAF aided by bombing inland targets. Canadians suffered 1074 casualties including 359 killed.
