C.G.I.T and Explorer Graduation Held in May

The Roblin United Church hosted the C.G.I.T. and Explorer banquet and graduation in May with graduates Shelley Newton Phyllis Nahirney and Elaine Ludwig receiving diplomas and pins. Explorers to C.G.L.T. graduates included Ruth Waddell Janice Martin Patricia Dillabaugh Adeline Stefaniuk Margaret Thompson Gwen Hill and Valerie Jakeman.

Hilesburg Council Meeting Held June First 1960

The Rural Municipality of Hilsburg held its regular meeting in the office on June 1 1960. Reeve John Perchaluk presided with all councillors in attendance.

Free Methodist W M S Meeting Held June 3

The Free Methodist WMS annual meeting was held at Mrs Blanche Ferguson's home on June 3. Officers elected were Myrtle Bailey president and Edna Anderson secretary. Minutes, Benevolent Report, and financial items were reviewed. notices include electors roll revision date, a $25 Salvation Army grant, fence removal by John Nykyforak, convention expenses, and HSOP premium guarantees.

Bicycle Safety Campaign Held Saturday June 4th

Nine hundred thirty boys and girls attended a bicycle safety event at the public school grounds on Saturday June 4 at 9 am under R G Case chief constable of Roblin. Prizes awarded for best equipped bike best knowledge of hand signals and safety and best and safest rider. Judges included Mayor F A Newton and RCMP Corporal McFarlane. Prizes supplied by Roblin hardware stores. Lunch was served by local merchants with volunteers listed.

Village Constable Busy May Under By Law and Acts

During May Chief Constable R G Case had a busy period under Village By Law No 435 Section 2 eight prosecuted five outstanding. Prosecutions under the Highway Traffic Act totaled thirteen with one outstanding. One person prosecuted under the L C A and one under the C C C with two cases outstanding.

Togo Social Roundup Sees Local Visits and Events

Mrs Wm Hampson and reporter Mrs Ireland report a homecoming after a Faulkner visit. Ed Bell and family drove Regina, Roblin outings listed, and Sid May attended the United Church Conference in Saskatoon. Ladies Auxiliary Tea in Kamsack and Shiner's Circus visit by Togo students noted. A Masonic Church Service occurred with Rev. Fournier leading. George Stewart of Norquay visited Wes Scoville.

Lutheran Ladies Aid Meeting At St Matth ews Church

The Lutheran Ladies Aid of St Matth ews Lutheran Church met June 2 at the home of Mrs R Wendek er with nine members present. Rev P Borchardt led devotions from Prayer and Devotions. President Mrs C Andres conducted business, roll call and minutes were read. Reports on supper for ministers wives, sick visiting and a $5 camp donation were given. Clothing drive to Canadian Lutheran World Relief announced, and lunch followed.

Tummel Ladies' Club Meeting Held At Mrs Lamb Jr Home

The May gathering of the Tummel Ladies' Club met at Mrs John Lamb Jr's home with seven members and one visitor. After business, plans for a picnic were made and three members volunteered to assemble Asts for the June meeting. Next meeting to be hosted by Mrs Bodnaruk. A lunch was served.

Court of Revision Held by Shell River Council

The Shell River Council met on Wednesday June 1 1960 with Reeve F H Wilson presiding and full attendance. Minutes from May were read and approved. Accounts totaling 3989.16 were passed. Electors' Roll revised for 1960 and revised roll adopted. Various tax, grant, and road decisions noted with adjournment to July 6.

Installation ceremonies for the Order of The Royal Purple took place June 2 in the Roblin Elks Hall with District Deputy Supreme Installing Officer Lady Fitchner of Yorkton assisted by Lady Margaret Sorbo. Officers named for the term include Pianist Eleanor Robertson Outer Guard Gladys Macleod Inner Guard Margaret McNeil Conductress Mary Perry Chaplain Olga Kiemecki Historian Ordella Payne Three Year Trustee Doreen Keast Treasurer Marjorie Kelso Secretary Jean Hersak Lecturing Lady Eileen Linton Loyal Lady Pauline Crabb Associate Lady Helena Kines Past Honored Royal Lady Vera Dillin and Honored Royal Lady Mabel Craig. A courtroom-style exchange followed with a judge asking if leaving one’s wife makes a deserter, and a defendant replying that if one knew his wife as he does, they would call him a refugee.

Roblin Village Council Meets and Approves Various Items

The Roblin village held a May 10 1960 council meeting with Mayor F A Newton presiding and full council. Minutes from prior sessions were adopted and numerous accounts in merit lists approved for payment alongside water sewer costs. Licenses building permits and tenders were considered with actions on gravel prices and fire brigade rates and practices.

Stubel-Payne wedding attended by Ward family in Winnipeg

Mr and Mrs Wilf Ward and family with Mr Ed ward Schappert of Regina attended the Stubel Payne wedding in Winnipeg Saturday, returning Sunday. Mrs Lydia Miller left for Winnipeg for an executive meeting of the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary and other business. Mr and Mrs Arthur Wailer and John arrived Monday to spend a week with Mr and Mrs Ed Andres and other relatives.
