Local Girl Weds Fredrick Laycock at Knox United
Lois Edith De La Mare, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo H De La Mare, married Fredrick Matthew Laycock son of Mr and Mrs L L Laycock of Russell on Tuesday July 16 at 3 30 pm at Knox United Church. Rev J M McNeill officiated. The ceremony was followed by a reception for sixty at the bride’s home and the couple left for Clear Lake and points east, planning to reside in Russell.

Urbanski's Mark 25th Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Ben Urbanski celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 12, 1949 at the groom's parents home. Guests included sons Walter and Frank and many out of town visitors. A three gun salute, then supper, dancing, a three tier cake, and gifts such as a china cabinet and silver followed the reception for about two hundred guests.

Hydro Expansion Boosts Manitoba Power Output in June
The Manitoba Power Commission reports a 40 percent increase in electric power generation in June versus 1948. Mechanized pole crews built about 90 poles daily across rural municipalities including Bifrost and Dauphin while wire crews laid 746 miles of transmission line. Planned additions include a 1000 kva condenser at Virden and flood lighting at Kinsmen Stadium Branden. A Parkdale terminal station transformer upgrade nears completion. An Experimental Station in Scot Sask compares Barred Rocks and New Hampshires with monthly weights showing no clear difference.
