The Ladies Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion meets July 27. A Robin Band dance is set for July 29 Fair Night with lunch donations requested. Robin baseball third at Russell tournament. Manitoba Horse trainees listed for Dauphin Lake. Shell River Agricultural Society fair planned next week with sports and large entries expected.

Postup Baseball Club picnic drew good attendance and enjoyment. Merridale Community Club dance at Merridale School on July 15 with Donoghue Bros orchestra. Attendance lower than some events due to competing attractions. A solid crowd was present.

Imperial Conference Opens in Ottawa July 21

The first Imperial Conference outside the British capital opens in Ottawa on July 21. Delegates from Britain and all Dominions represent about 450 million people across 13.9 million square miles. Delegates will meet in Parliament Buildings while staying at Chateau Laurier Hotel near the House of Commons. White population roughly 60 million.

Pioneer Woman R J Brooks Tummel Dies

Mrs Robert Brooks died at her daughter Mrs Naylor’s Russell home on July 13 after a long illness. Born in Stratford Ontario August 11 1846 she married Robert Callin in 1866 and moved west in 1882 to Moosman near Tummel. She helped travelers on the Pelly trail and was a local physician figure before moving to Russell. Survived by three daughters Mrs Naylor Russell Mrs E Paul Winnipeg Mrs R Preston Treherne and three sons Jor and John Tummel and George Texas, with a brother B Callin Russell. Funeral Friday at Tummel United church conducted by Rev Kern. Interment Tummel cemetery. Honorary pallbearers listed.

Togo Fair Opens July 28 With Dairy and Cattle Show

The 26th annual Togo Agricultural Society summer show is set for Thursday July 28. Entries are urged promptly and in accordance with the rules. Changes to cattle prize list include the Royal Bank Special for best dual purpose cow a Silver Medal and the Kamsack Creamery Special for best dairy cow with prizes of 3.00 for first and 2.00 for second.

Twenty one planes of varying sizes will perform at the Monster Air meet in Russell on Friday July 22. Activities include stunt parachute jumps bomb dropping and racing with an afternoon of flying events from 1 45 p m to 4 p m after arrivals at 11 30 a m Admission is 25 cents. A Monster dance follows in the evening.
