Local Student Receives Diploma in Medical Laboratory Tech

Shirley Ann Merinuk formerly Roblin received her diploma at graduation exercises of Red River Community College and Winnipeg General Hospital. She attended Tummel Consolidated School and Roblin Collegiate. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex Merviuk, she now resides in Winnipeg and has a position in the Bacteriology Department at Winnipeg General Hospital.

School board awards bus tender and outlines 1971 72 plan

The board accepted a low bid from Dauphin Tire & Vulcanizing for owned buses with tires and tubes for 1971 72. Roblin driver Bill Yellonega will operate routes from Roblin to Dauphin Comprehensive School with pickups at Grandview and Gilbert Plains. The board approves summer bus use for Roblin Recreational Committee and senior citizens trips to Shellmouth Dam, while denying some public transportation style requests. Route reviews and a fall change near Shortdale are noted, along with road talks with Grandview council and project work at Grandview School due by July 20. Most teaching positions are filled, with four vacancies remaining.

Recreation Ramblings at High School and Local Library

Tuesday and Thursday gym nights run with low youth female turnout. The Old Intermediate School library opens at 1:00 on Wednesdays. Water Ski Clinic moves from Shellmouth Dam to Silver Beach with 4 dollar registration at the Registration Office, 2295, for Red Cross swimming lessons starting Monday July 19. Bus schedules from New Intermediate School are 9:30 12:20 2:30 with 9:30 first-day reporting.

Roblin Curling Rink hosts ongoing work nights and ticket draw

Rock and broom sessions at the Roblin Curling Rink keep volunteers busy on and off work nights. Ernie Bennett coordinates curlers and helpers. Completed items include ceiling in the waiting room a kitchen hallway and washrooms, plus veneer walls in the waiting room and used plywood paneling in washrooms. A July 13 meeting with 13 in attendance discussed an $1800 cash prize draw on July 26 and ticket handling for master entry. Donations and payments noted include $18 license fee and $65.50 paint. Next meeting is July 19 at 8 pm. all tickets must be accounted for.

Zorra 4-in-1 Club Homecoming Picnic Held July 7th

The Zorra 4 in 1 Club hosted a July 7 homecoming reunion with 400 to 500 attendees. A parade led by local youth opened the day, followed by remarks from MP Irving Carlson and Rev. Philip Becker. Activities included races, ball games, volleyball, horseshoes, a smorgasbord, and a souvenir awards presentation for distant attendees and large families.

Lutheran Ladies Aid Meeting at St Matthew July 8

The St Matthew Lutheran Ladies Aid met in the church basement at 8:00 p.m. on July 8 with eight members present. Reverend Borchardt led hymns and Bible study from St Matthew 18:1-35. President Mohr chaired, minutes read, Ziprick covered treasurer duties in Otke's absence. Meeting adjourned followed by a lunch hosted by Onofriechuk and Ziprick.

Darlene Waggoner Honored At Shower

Miss Darlene Waggoner bride elect of July 24th was the honored guest at a miscellaneous shower held at Mrs. Mabel Brade's home on Monday evening July 12th. About fifty guests from Roblin and Inglis attended. Daisy corsages were given to Darlene and her mother Mrs. Pearl Waggoner. A daisy themed decor and contests led by Verla Waggoner and Sandra Currey entertained guests. Master David Todorowich presented gifts from a miniature hay rack. A delicious lunch concluded the evening.

First dugout liner installed near Roblin

Mr. Vern Andres reports that Canadian Falcon Fabricators of Roblin installed their first water storage dugout liner this month at the Pritshau Greenhouses east of Roblin. Vern has color pictures from the installation to be shown in the shop.
