Wages for John Hallam set at 75 cents? per day and pension approval for John Thomas Williams. Hillsburg council minutes July seventh at Municipal Office

The Hillsburg meeting notes that all council members were present with Reeve Sorbo presiding Belcher Chick members. The minutes from the prior meeting were adopted. Lease of NE 17 27 to Ross McLeod for three years on a one third crop share. Authorization to finalize sale agreements with Steve Trowsky for NE 17 28 27 at $50 cash with road reduction condition. By-law No 137 authorizing the assignment.

Goose Lake School Trustees Meet With Property Repairs Approved

The Goose Lake School trustees met July 8 evening with all members present. Minutes from the previous session were adopted. A letter from R J Johns discussed Grade VIII and general shop work. The property committee was authorized to install a fire escape, replace the old school floor, and fix windows per the fire inspector. Mining work in the new school was authorized as soon as possible. Accounts passed included C D G Barbery and T H Taylor.

Stamp-o-Gram Sales Reach $443 in Roblin District

The War Savings Campaign shows Roblin and district reporting $443 by Saturday, a little over half of the $720 objective. Miss Canada’s sold stamps on the street for $47.50, while some outlying districts lag behind the goal.

Four youths attend Junior M.A.F. Camp at Wasaga

Four young people Jessie Lindsay Lorene Traub Glen Arnott and Herb Henderson motored to Camp Wasaga near Clear Lake on July 1 for a Junior M.A.F.A. camp with about 60 attendees. They studied cooperation credit unions and public speaking, enjoyed folk dancing and sports, and returned home tired but happy planning to organize a new youth M.F.A. group.

Pte McIntyre of the Whig Rifles on furlough at home. Mrs T J Kelly celebrates 86th birthday on July 14. H J Bowley of Rossburn returns with his wife. Pte Percy Cameron of the V C of C at Lethbridge on furlough. Mr and Mrs F Gilbert and family visit Winnipeg parents. Frank Newton RCAF on furlough with his parents. Mrs C Thom and Mrs W Robertson visit Russell. Jean Mitchell leaves for Winnipeg to visit relatives. Myra Tyruk and others from Fort Frances visit Urbanski home. Alexander Gordon McNichol of Roblin enlists July 1 at Winnipeg, 18, farmer prior to service. Roblin WI hosts visitors for a wartime price board play, The Blue Book, with Tea and a social hour.

Roblin District Meeting of Pool Elevators

A Roblin adjacent Manitoba Pool Elevators meeting in the local school auditorium included head office officials Geo McConnell Neil Wright and E J Watson with field representatives from Makaroff Dropmore Russell and Binscarth. McConnell spoke on grain conditions and market outlook before a supper hosted by the United Church Ladies Aid. The Roblin Board of Directors later met to discuss purchasing elevators and future operation plans.
