Ground beef E coli advisory urges precautions for Manitobans

Manitoba health officials warn ground meats from beef may carry E coli. About 75 reportable cases occur yearly, with 28 so far this year including 18 in May and June. A strain seen in seven Manitoba cases is under national investigation with no specific source identified yet. Follow safe handling: cook meat well to 68 C for 15 seconds, avoid raw meat, use clean utensils, wash surfaces and hands, refrigerate promptly, and seek medical care for bloody diarrhea.
