Jakeman Golden Anniversary Remembrance in Millbrook

A long celebrated couple, Sir and Mrs Jakeman, marked fifty years since their Millbrook Ontario marriage. The pair later lived in Robin Manitoba Salmon Arm and Victoria BC. They raised thirteen children, nine survive with twenty grandchildren. Jacobem is 68 and his wife 72. greetings came from England and family members attended the humble gathering with gifts of fine wines and elderflower.

Roblin Girls Win Big in Northern Manitoba League Opener

The Roblin girls hockey team opened the Northern Manitoba League with a 2 0 victory over Russell. Captain Clarce Kelso scored both goals in the first period as Evelyn Kelso Bertha Wart meir and Sadie Twa held Russell scoreless. The result gave Roblin a two goal lead in a home and away series with Russell, with the next game slated for Saturday at 7 30 p m local time in Russell.

Snowmobile passes through Bield and visits over weekend

Neighbors report a snowmobile sighting in Bield on Friday while Nek Witwicki, a business visitor, spent the weekend in Dauphn. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Witwicki in nearby home. Clive and others visited Ed Harrop of Shevtin last Sunday. The Beeld Community extends sympathy to Rev Kern amid illness. Shortdale Four Leaf Clover Club hosted a gathering at Miss Cooper's home with music by the Shortdale Black Crows.

The Makaroff United Church held its annual congregational meeting Monday evening with good attendance. Rev. R. S McLeod presided. reports from Ladies Aid, Choir, Sunday School and Young People showed the church’s work well maintained. N. G. Kerswell re-elected elder. several members were appointed to the Board of Management and Sunday School leadership roles. lunch followed.

Cromarty WI Meeting At Mrs Fraser Home

The February meeting of Cromarty the WI will be hosted at Mrs H Fraser's residence. Notes include questions about Ted's smoking and his preference for Spuds. Alice Leslie visited Mrs F MecDuffe's home last week and Lionel's eye issue is mentioned. Mrs A Downie of Grandview visits her daughter Mrs Fred MecDuffe. The bean supper and dance were successful, and Mr D Holmes hosted bridge last Thursday. Stewart and Mel are wished better luck next time.

CLUB WORK EFFECTIVE FOR BOYS AND GIRLS SWINE CLUB

Five focal points guide swine club work with aid from federal and provincial Agriculture departments. They cover placement and distribution of young breeding sows, in-home or lecture instruction, dissemination of breeding feeding management and marketing information, judging demonstrations, and securing strong boar stock for each district.

Community Club dances feature midnight play in Merridale

A short midnight play by local talent accompanies dances at Merridale hosted by the Community Club. A Hillsburg Municipality ratepayers meeting, held at Administrator C Brydon s offices, discussed municipal affairs with advisory board members R Chase J Lesack Ed Andres J Pruskie and H Fraser present. Brydon provided progress updates and was praised for valuable information.

Electric dollar proposed to end depressions in New York

The American Association for the Advancement of Science in New York heard economist John Pease Norton propose a new currency called the electric dollar. It would be based on electrical energy rather than gold, issued as paper money, and valued by kilowatt hours to purchase roughly the same amount of goods. Norton argued the unit of energy aligns with economic value and would stabilize prices.

On Monday January 20 1918 in Roblin Grandview defeated Roblin 5 to 3 in a fast paced hockey game noted as one of the swiftest in Northwest hockey circles with Grandview securing the win.
