Rev D S Kern United Church Minister Dies Sunday

The death of Rev D S Kern a long serving minister in Roblin and area occurred Sunday morning January 9 at Swansea Township. He had returned from missionary work in China and faced health issues including high blood pressure leading to paralysis two weeks prior. He was judged a beloved community figure whose service extended beyond church circles. Funeral services were held at the United Church January 30 conducted by multiple ministers and his remains sent to Winnipeg for interment. He leaves wife Ada Marearstta daughter Muriel Wintred and a brother in Brantford Ontario. Community expresses deep sympathy.

Dog Derby And Ice Carnival Attracts Big Crowd

A Friday January 27 Dog Derby and Ice Carnival sponsored by the Tockey Club drew a large audience. Main events included Racing, Broomball, and Manassin Dance. Graham Mitchell won the afternoon dog race with Bill Cross second. Costume prizes went to Ruth Wells, Mona Yeo, Allie Glover, Doreen Yeo, W Hughes, R Wills, Tom Kines, Ralph Ws, Bertha Hanmeir, Mona Yeo, Evelyn Kelso Ast, Edith Cross, Ivvy Lambkin, and Fran.

The Makaroff Scots observed Lobbie Burns memory Friday at Makaroff Hall under the Women Institute. Contributions came from Mrs D Johnston, Mrs A Allen, Mrs Roge, Mrs S Borden, Mrs M Surrey, Mrs E Howe, Miss M Dempsey, L McLeod, I Stewart, M Jeek, Messrs P Hohle, H Jnby, J Laurie, J Tiaird, Mr Carmthers, Rev S R McJeod. Afterward ladies served oatcakes and shortbread, with the Mak aroff orchestra providing dance music.

Roblin and Ross Eirls played a return hockey game with Roblin winning 3 to 0. Local dances are planned including a Rebekah Lodge court whist and dance on February 10 at LOOF Hall and Valentine dance on February 17 in Tummel Hall. Miss Alice Lundy of Brandon visited town. attendance at L.C.L. meeting in Dauphin. I L Mitchell left for Winnipeg to attend a funeral.
