The Goose Lake School Board No. 1283 met January 6 1955 with all trustees present. John Collins was elected chairman for 1955 and Harry Maslove vice chairman. committees were named. Budget set at 89890 and 1000 reserve. numerous accounts approved for payment.

Shell River Council Sets Budget and Appointments

The Shell River Municipal Council in Roblin held a January 4, 1955 meeting to set budgets and appointments. Manitoba Resources Boom and Oil Growth Highlight 1954

Winnipeg Tribune notes Manitoba mineral production reached a record 35 million dollars in 1954, up 10 million from 1953. International Nickel announced a 2 million exploration project in north central Manitoba with a 1300 foot shaft planned. Oil production exceeded forecasts, meeting about one third of domestic needs as exploration expands. Premier Campbell forecasts further Tant applications, and local officials announce new appointments and budget amendments.

Committee Elected For 1995 Membership Drive

The Roblin Hospital Aid held its regular monetary meeting on Tuesday January 4th with 21 members present. A committee of three was formed to canvass the town and letters will be sent to outlying organizations asking for event sponsorship or cash donations. Donations and linen replacements expected to be heavy as the group urges support for the hospital.

Past Noble Grands Hold Regular Meeting in Masonic Hall

The Past Noble Grands Association met at the Masonic Hall on January 6, 1933, with MN L Hazel Ford presiding. They set a fundraising goal of 100 dollars for the Roblin Cemetery fund and arranged 1955 officer installations by the Past Noble Grands. A luncheon was served by hostesses Mrs. E. Lawrence and Mrs. D. Law.

New Policeman Commenced Duties in Roblin

Mr. R Rowland begins duties as police chief in Roblin on Saturday January 8. He previously served as Port Sidney Ontario police chief last summer and Braceoriage Ontario officer until November 19 1954. He spent 21 years as a sergeant with his former outfit.

Roblin Chapter No 42 OES installs officers with Eleanor Robertson as Worthy Matron on January 4 1955. Officers include Worthy Patron Albert Britcher Associate Matron Arlie Newton and others. Agnes Peterson past Matron assisted. A December 10 food demonstration yielded 132.45 to be divided among Hospital Aid Lake-O project and Memorial Hall.

Obituary for Robert John Hrynkiw

Robert John Hrynkiw died at seven after a car accident near Minnedosa on December 24 1954. Funeral services were held December 29 at the Roblin Lutheran Church with Rev Barchardt officiating and burial in Roblin Cemetery. He was born November 12 1947 in Roblin and survived by his parents Elizabeth and Joseph Hrynkiw five sisters Jerry Janet twins Judith Valerie and Joanne.

Past Noble Grands Honor Irene Gleiser at Shower

Mrs Irene Gleiser was honored by the Past Noble Grands Association with a miscellaneous shower on December 17 in the United Church lower hall. A humorous skit featured as a gift presentation with family relics, followed by thanks from the bride and a dainty lunch served by hostesses.
