A reader argues debtors deserve the right to pay debts in full and escape perpetual tribute to the money power. He cites Canada’s rising public debt, high interest, and tax burden, urging a resolution to secure the right to settle debts once and for all and end ongoing tribute.
Guy Parker returns home for the winter. Local families, including Mr and Mrs J W Eddy and family in Kamsack, host gatherings and visitors. R J M Parker ships stock to Winnipeg. A curling rink from Makaroff visits Taanaa tv game won by Mr Stone. The mid season 500 and dance at Davys Hall draws a crowd. prizewinners listed for ladies, gents. Several residents recover from illness after a period of bad colds.
Grand Narrows residents share holiday travel updates and greetings. A. J. McKnight visited Pelly area last week, W. Middleton returned home for the holidays, and R. Fraininghem of Kamsack visitors joined local friends. A Christmas tree raffle by Cyrille Wilson drew Jack Paddieton and Milford Maguire winning pairs. Santa distributed treats after the ATM hall concert. Mrs. Dixon hosted many friends at her avenue home Monday evening. guests enjoyed the warm gathering.
The High School reopened Tuesday with good attendance. District men searched Monday night for a boy reported lost. Miss Rhoda Randall left Roblin Tuesday. Mrs. S. M. Currey and Ada Currey of Makaraff were visiting in Roblin last week. David Chase in Dauphin Hospital progressing. Carl Spafford of Bannerman, Manitoba, left after Christmas in Roblin. District married folks thank Bachelors for entertainment and dance last Friday. Ada Currey and C Cameron Roblin won the card dance. Donoghue's orchestra played.
A play titled They re all Ne ehhours and a concert will be staged in the T.O.O.F. hall on January 6 under the Ladies Aid. Admission is 25 cents, with 15 cents for a child or concession.
The Grandview home of Mr and Mrs Noble W Bowes hosted the December wedding of their eldest daughter Olvea Pearl Bowes to John Neilson son of Mr F H Belton Roblin. Rev John Jackson officiated with a bond of Carnations pearls and orange blossom in the bridal attire. A regal dinner followed in pale blue and white with toasts from local officials and friends. The couple planned reside in Grandview after a trip east then west by train for their wedding journey.
A wedding was solemnized at the home of Alvin W. Nastrom as his brother John J. Nastrom wed Miss Hannah L. Howell on January 3 in Roblin. The bride wore blue canton crepe and the bridesmaid Mlle Nastrom wore a paler blue. Bruce Howell, the bride’s brother, served as groomsman and the groom gave a string of pearls as a wedding gift. A supper followed after registration formalities.
Claude Deepdale journeyed to Dauphin for the New Year while Jack Bearman visited relatives there during Xmas. Roblin resident Bob Greenaway was in town last Thursday. Mrs. George Harvey holidayed at her daughter's home in Makaroff and Tenenhouse visited Yorkton by snowmobile. R Henderson and J Ward traveled to Winnipeg with three rock cars. Mrs. Tom Roberts left for Cromer to visit her sister. Mr and Mrs Mae Thompson and Esther saw friends in Dauphin and Grandview. A shower honored Miss Tanah Fowell at Mrs G Gardner's home last Thursday. Mr and Mrs Harry Pitcher and family from Dauphin spent New Year with S T Argent. Waracrat reported serious illness of Mrs E Dunlap.
Local and General Mr and Mrs J N Belton of Grandview joined New Year guests at the Belton home. The Roblin Band fundraiser for the Blue and White Ball featured the McNeill orchestra. Roblin Midgets fell 7-4 to Calder in hockey, with Stinson issuing penalties. Roblin A F M reorganized on Dec 17 with winter meetings, speaker program planned. Municipal World notes small towns regain debt relief advantage. Johnny Greenaway caused parental anxiety when he wandered from home on Monday afternoon and was found later after searches.
W Ratuznik of Postup tended the crushers while Jim Poyser visited friends west of Roblin and sold several horses. The Ridgital district stock breeders held their annual meeting at M Prusky's, electing F Roznik as President H Fraser as Secretary Treasurer and F Lywak as Director. The Review announces a book in hands of printer needing about twenty subscriptions to complete. A Canada wide rate with Family Herald and Weekly Star is offered at 1.75 until January 15 1938.
Tenders due January 10 for a van route to collect named Ottawa area children. Route may operate from either end with vans 1 and 6 handling pickups as now. Route to be discontinued when snow ends. Lowest bidder not guaranteed acceptance. Secretary-Treasurer Geo. B. Mitchell signs.
