The Manitoba Pool Elevators announces annual retained patronage dividends for retired farmers and those 65 or older. Cheques totaling 2 195 members are mailed for 2 133 086. Estates of deceased members receive about 280 000 during the year.
Manitoba Agriculture expert Lorne Martin says inventory helps farmers profit by better decision making and marketing. Cash accounting lacks end of year inventory, affecting tax planning and loan credibility. Flexible Inventory Provision now applies to all farms.
Martin says farmers can gauge financial progress by inventory taking. End-year inventories separate profit from asset value increases, with year end Dec. 31 as a typical fiscal date. A guide titled How You Can Profit From Taking Inventory is available from Manitoba Agriculture district offices.
