The 32nd United Church moderator Right Rev Sang Chul Lee visited Roblin on Feb 16 en route to Birch River. He spoke at a lunch with about 90 people from Roblin and nearby congregations and met about 100 more at Knox United Church. He discussed ecumenism and church issues including ordination of homosexuals, youth involvement, native people, and Mission funds.
Margaret Jerome of Roblin has been appointed to the Manitoba Arts Council for a two year term, joining 14 other new members announced by Culture Heritage and Recreation Minister Bonnie Mitchelson on February 8. The council funds professional artists and organizations across visual, performing and literary arts. Jerome expressed gratitude and hope her work satisfies observers.
Roblin residents supported two January snowmobile fund raisers the MS Society s Ride for Hope on January 22 and the Lions Club Journey for Light on January 27. Donations from private citizens Masons Legion Tween Valley Sno-Riders and others totaled 680 for the MS riders 370 for the Lions Eye Bank program and coin banks plus pledges brought the Roblin Lions telethon total to 3508.97.
Manitoba Telephone System plans a $1.5 million digital switch upgrade serving about 2,000 customers in Russell and Inglis starting February 26, 1989. The seven year program, Service for the Future, aims to improve transmission quality and reliability while cutting maintenance costs.
