Hillsburg council approves three tenders and by laws

The Rural Municipality of Hillsburg meeting on February 2 1955 approved By-laws 281 282 and 283 authorizing tax sale certificate assignments and deferred levies. It adopted 1954 over expenditure clarification approved disability and old age assistance, appointed Leslie I Spear civil defense officer, and accepted tenders from Mike Wychopen Joe Andronyk and Lenard Cockerill for logging and operation work. A special meeting was set for February 16 1955 to draft the 1955 budget and rate by law.

Hospital Aid Welcomes New Matron At Roblin

Roblin Hospital Aid met on February 1 with 21 members. The group noted a 44.58 donation from the Order of the Eastern Star and a 75.30 membership drive total. A committee was formed to plan the Annual Spring Bazaar and sewing tasks were assigned, with Miss Gilland introduced as the new Matron.

Tummel Calf Club Holds Organization Meeting

The Tummel Calf Club met Tuesday February 1 at J. C. Brook home with six members. Officers elected this year were President Gordon Christoff Vice President Sylvia Twerdon Secretary Treasurer Marjorie Pyott Reporter Arlene Brook. Leader for the year is Mr R Livingston. Next meeting is Tuesday March 1 at Marjorie Pyott home. New members welcome.

Shell River Calf Club Holds January Meeting

The Shell River Calf Club met at Wray Dayson home on Friday January 21 with nine members present. A donation was made to the March of Dimes campaign. The next meeting will be a Thanksgiving Party at Lorraine Edel home February 1 at 8 00 p.m. Lunch was served by Mrs Dayson after adjournment.

Fire Breaks Out in Local Garage

On Friday February 4 Mod ern Motors in Roblin caught fire in the evening. Fire Brigade RCMP and locals stopped the blaze with little damage. Three cars and an arch welder were removed. partition and tractor paint were burned. basement flooded with two to three inches of water. Owner Fred Kozak away at a sawmill.

Rural Municipality of Shell River met on Wednesday February 2 with Reeve Clarke presiding. Minutes approved, January accounts totaling 3618.52 approved. Re-engagements for Diesel Graders and Caterpillar outfit at prior pay and bonuses. Gravel hauling contract set at 89 cents per cubic yard with mileage over six miles at 10 cents. Hospital board appointment changes, 1955 tax bylaw readings, pension applications approved, and Dr Kobenka lease consideration for the municipal office second floor. Reeve Clarke granted 50 for Winnipeg trip related to grants.
