Feds prep Y2K staffing in Manitoba for year change
Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy says about 250 civil servants 490 RCMP and 360 military personnel will be on duty in Manitoba during the holiday period with 1 000 more on call. Federal operations centres will run around the clock to ensure essential services like Employment Insurance Old Age Security and border control remain uninterrupted.
