Assiniboine 4-H Club met for the third time on Wednesday December 8. Three new members joined the pony club bringing total membership to 11. The Christmas party drew 39 attendees and was a success. Reporter Wendy Kurtenback.
On Saturday December 4 Mark 69 hosted its first annual bonspiel with ten rinks. After six hours two rinks won prizes. First event winners were Marjorie Martin Joe Dudych Audrey Pronyk and Ken Kobelka. Second event winners were Thelma Kozak George Yourchek Dave Rose and John Merko.
The Roblin curling clubs held Christmas events in December with Santa gifts, raffles awarding a large hamper to Kathy Wallace and a turkey to Mrs Jim Hilland. $145 raised. thanks to Florence Schmellinger for the turkey and donors. Regular play resumes Jan 5 1972. afternoon event cancelled Dec 22.
A psychiatrist remarks that a man is believed to be sound if he can repeat the tongue twister "Sister Suzie sat in the soup" three times without error. The odd assessment is presented as a quip on speech and memory testing.
The Intermountain division board of trustees offers a Christmas reflection on the birth of Christ and the need for humility, charity, and peace. It notes humanity’s progress yet warns that wealth obsession undermines dignity and law. The message hopes for renewed hope and friendship among nations and a renewed commitment to helping the less fortunate in 1972.
Mr. Dick Bangle of Waboden visited last week. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Langevan on the birth of a son, Robert Klassin, with twins and mother healthy. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wilson traveled to Winnipeg to visit Mrs. Wilson's sister's family, Ross Olsen. Noël Framingham celebrated an 18th birthday with friends. Mrs. Arthur Radford returns from White Rock after two months visiting her daughter Bob Cockerill. Mrs. Cockerill improving after an operation. Mr. Garland Dixon home for the weekend. Elgin Barr and Bran don's visiting Ray and Herb Murray and other relatives.
A candy packer filled 2000 pounds of candy in six pound boxes. If each box held six pounds more, 75 fewer boxes would be needed. Determine the original number of boxes used. The text also mixes unclear foreign phrases and questions about desserts and kisses.
Roblin Auto Body owned by Ray Taylor was gutted by a Thursday evening blaze. Fire crews battled flames at 6:30 and 10:30, extinguishing the roof fire and saving two vehicles. Insurance coverage partly applied, with estimated losses around 10,000 dollars.
Mr and Mrs Andrew Addis celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an Open House in Makaroff Community Hall on December 17 1971. Their sons George and Kenneth and wives and grandchildren joined relatives in a festively decorated event with gifts telegrams from dignitaries and a guest book signed by over fifty attendees.
Bantam Mustangs open season with two wins. Saturday at home they shut out Russell Elks 6 0 with Jerry Pitt stellar in goal and scorers Bruce Andres two goals David Korney Myron Kostick Marc Sutton Terry Hawryluk. Sunday they beat Grandview 75 in Exhibit as Marc Sutton Bruce Andres each scored twice with Kostick Morash Ricky Simpson adding goals.
The Togo Elks Lodge held its annual Turkey Bingo on December 10. Winners include many residents of Togo such as Mark Hischabett Don Melnyk and Mrs Jennie Topham along with participants from San Clara Poplar Point and Runnymede. The Jack Pot game also produced winners John King and Sarah Abbess of Togo.
On December 16 the Roblin Manitoba sale processed 547 head including 266 cattle 16 sows 9 boars 242 weanling and feeder pigs 4 horses and 10 sheep Prices ranged from 7 to 52 dollars per unit across categories with feeder pigs up to 40 and bred sows near 45 to 52 dollars.
Friday's hockey clash drew few spectators as Roblin St Winds beat the Dauphin Juveniles 4 to 2 despite missing two stars. Roblin scorers were Terleski, K Holovach, B Andres, and M Kuzyk with assists to Kuzyk, Holland, Doering, and Terleski.
This week at R C 1 features Spirit Week with Daily dress codes Athlete's Day Accident Day Theme Day and Christmas Day plus chocolate bar sales inter room volleyball and decorating. A December 22 Christmas Dance closes the week while basketball sees the Senior Girls beat Swan River as Boys stumble. Next home game December 20 hosts Grandview for Junior teams and Senior Girls.
The Roblin Senior Citizens Club met on December 15 to celebrate Christmas. Twenty members attended along with one visitor. Whist games determined winners with Miss J Anderson and Mr Ziebart taking first prizes. Consolations went to Mrs Ina Simpson and Mr Ray Gray. A festive tea followed with seasonal decorations. An exchange of gifts, greetings, and well wishes ended the pleasant social evening.
Noted Christmas carol Jingle Bells traces to James Pierpont of Massachusetts in the 1850s, credited as the most sung secular tune in American history. The legacy ties to a New England university setting and early 19th century festive culture.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery shows World of Colour at Roblin Intermediate School from December 20 to January 16 featuring twelve reproductions by Braque Chagall Heckel and Matisse. The public is invited to view the display at any time and a later Winnipeg Art Gallery exhibit runs January 24 to February 13.
