A wartime neighborhood note from Canadian Army personnel and relatives overseas sends Christmas and New Year wishes. Readers in Roblin Manitoba hear updates from Pte Jarvis and others stationed in England and Europe, with thanks for cigarettes and parcels and hopes for safe returns.
Chairman Rh W McBride led volunteers to place three large trees at the main street intersections for Yuletide lighting. The trees are ready to be wired by the light committee and funding has been voluntary with no canvas yet. Encouragement and support are welcome to complete the display.
Read Mr Povser's letter for thought and action. Mrs Donald Williamson of Dauphins visits with Mr and Mrs Jack Hallam. Trappers read Frank Massins ad offering fur returns. Roblin theatre offers cosy evenings with light fare and smiles. Ruth Mitchell returns from Hamilton and plans business studies. Best wishes to George and Mrs Mitchell on extended Vancouver West trip. A warning is sent to the Roblin Postmaster about public abuse of the Station Mail Box. The box is for emergency mailing only and not general use. Next cent mail should be posted there this time of year to avoid over carry and delayed delivery. Post all mail at the Post Office whenever possible.
Oversight notes Jack Heming as the eldest son of Mr and Mrs F A Heming in a family listing that also includes Frank serving in the army Ted in the navy and Dorothy in the CWALCS.
Local notes report residents returning from Winnipeg trips and new appointments. The Togo Christmas Tree concert is set for December 22 at 8 30 p.m. A bazaar at Craig Store drew funds for the Ladies Aid. Community mourns Mr Wm Ross founder of the district and long-time Togo Agricultural Society president. Socials include W I meetings at Mrs MreDuffe and a whist night at Mr Nott with best wishes for the newlyweds.
Mrs. S. M. Currey visited town Monday. S. J. Lee rode to Winnipeg Saturday night. Kg Ward of Deepdale was in town Friday. Mrs. J. Davis and her infant son returned from Rolin last week. Hilda Rogers spent the weekend in Roblin with Mrs. Collins. Mrs. Frampton of Regina stayed with sister Mrs. B. Brown. Rev. G. Anderson will deliver his Christmas message next Sunday at all appointments. Subject: And I saw at New Heaven and a New Earth.
A carload of pigs and cattle were loaded here Saturday. Mrs. Glen Lester and Mrs. Herbert visit relatives in Walker. Mr. and Mrs. A. Mathews return to work on the CLIN UR. A church shower honors Miss Vivian Argent, a bride this month. Mrs. Lomax and son Brian return home at Macdonald after visiting relatives here.
Miss Ina Lindsay spent Saturday with Mrs. Adam Sangster in Silverwood. Alvin McKnight of Grand Narrows visited Silverwood last week. Patriotic Society members met at Mrs. W. J. Pearson's home Monday to pack a V Bundle for Britain containing layettes suits pajamas bloomers slips children's nighties a boys suit bloomers dresses and various household items and soaps.
Rev. 8S. S. Matchett presided at the Rosedale United church manse as Wincie Thompson elder daughter of the late H T Thompson wed Rowland Eppleston, son of Mr and Mrs S Eppleston, at 7 30 p m on December 4. The couple will reside at 23 Carlowe Apartments.
Dropmore hosts Tummel on December 12 at Dropmore rink and wins 9 to 7. Top scorers for Dropmore include Durward Rowan with four goals and Mike Turta with three. Tummel’s Evan Williams nets three with Bruce and Davidson adding two each. Lineups list Tumme Bramwell, McArthur, Mickelson, Bruce, Williams, Ray Davidson, Langford versus Nerbas Brown Cameron Rowan Turta Turta White Smith.
Roy Sokolowski bought a 1929 Model A car. Walter Melnychenko returns from Winnipeg. Cpl. Fred Maluta of Brandon visited with his parents for a few days. Frank Horcczy left for Winnipeg on December 7 to begin army duties. Mr and Mrs Balewick and Philip Geryluk return from Dauphin hospital.
Reverend P Mead will hold gospel meetings at Merridale school in January. He is noted as a talented guitar player. Mrs A J Macauley will accompany on the piano. attendees invited to hear preaching and singing.
