Farmers' Curling Club Holds Bonspiel Finale Awards

The Roblin Farmers Bonspiel began November 20 at 9 15 am with twenty rinks competing. Finals were played Friday evening Dec tent. A banquet followed Saturday at the Greek Orthodox Church. prizes were awarded for Hilland Ast and Marshall Wells events among others with multiple placers listed.

Cromarty 4 in 1 Club Holds Second Meeting December 7

Twenty members and five leaders met in Cromarty Hall on December 7 for the second meeting of the term. New executive took charge with Vernon Furtney as president Bruce Haberstock secretary and Spud Tucker treasurer. Committees planned a Christmas week toboggan party. Harald Boughton assisted re organizing Tractor Club with Ervin Baumung as leader and outlined Light Horse and Pony Club goals. Wedding at United Church Manse Nods to December 2

A quiet wedding solemnized at the United Church Manse on December 2 at 2:00 PM joined Leni Mangaret, daughter of Mr and Mrs W F Thompson, to Benjamin Russell Spear of Speg. The bride wore white satin two piece, net headpiece with white roses, and a corsage of red rosebuds and lily of the valley. Attendant Atta Sigurdson wore royal print dress. guests included the groom’s mother and the bride’s mother wearing matching attire. Best man Fred Thompson, toast given by uncle Al Morrison, pianist Mrs Walter Ward. A family supper followed at the Lee home and the newlyweds planned to reside in the near future.

Fourteen Choirs Perform at Roblin Christmas Carols Festival

Fourteen choirs gathered in Roblin's edictorium Friday for a Festival of Christmas music. Sponsored by the Community Musical Group of Roblin and District, the program featured Ukrainian, French, and English selections across two segments with intermission drawings.

Foot and mouth disease and Canada’s beef exports

Harold Boughton reports on Canada’s response to foot and mouth disease in England. Canada has sent twelve Government Veterinarians to assist British health authorities. Saskatchewan’s 1952 outbreak caused the slaughter of 1,343 cattle, 203 hogs, 97 sheep, and 1 goat, halting export trade for months and costing millions. Canada maintains 32 Health of Animals Branch veterinarians across the country and at major ports to inspect incoming animals and enforce import health standards. Cattle from outside the United States require permits and quarantine.

Roblin Elks Santa Snowmobile Parade Planned

The Roblin Elks announce a Santa Claus snowmobile parade on Monday December 8 with the parade featuring decorated snowmobiles designed by Intermediate School students. Children will receive rides on motor toboggans starting 9 30 am and continuing until parade time, backed by local business support.

Thirty Local Jehovahs Witnesses Attend Swan River Assembly

Mr Olson reported about thirty local Jehovah's Witnesses attended the semi annual assembly held in Swan River December 8 to 10 with a total three day attendance of 555. Delegates travelled from Churchill 650 miles away. The final address by Mr Douglas Clegg urged Bible based humility and self control amid fears of Armageddon and divine intervention in human affairs.

Advisory Planning Commission Studies Shell River Roblin Map

The Advisory Planning Commission of Roblin met with Shell River Council members to study a combined district map showing the Shell River RM and Roblin town area under plan. Changes were made. Miriam Bongfjord to meet for further discussion. Building inspector not yet appointed and permit pricing not revised, affecting reported housing costs. Objection to a trailer court was overruled by the judges after a town office hearing.

Snow and cold snap arrive as Dauphin area hunter checks report 473 wildlife watchers tally 53 moose killed in two first moose season days. Of these 24 are adults with the rest antlerless. Officials cite Boggy Creek and Mafeking as top water‑faring zones.

Doctors Wade Falk Receive Medical Fellowships

Mrs F Y Newton wintering in Victoria BC reports her grandson Dr John G Wade earned a Royal College of Physicians Fellowship in Anaesthesiology while completing research at UC Medical Center San Francisco. Her grandson in law Dr Rudolf E Falk of Heibert Saskatchewan earned a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship after studies at University of Toronto. Dr Falk and Mrs Falk will move to Stockholm Sweden for McLaughlin Fellowship at Karolinska Institute.
