The Roblin Review will keep its $2.00 price but move to 11 issues per year to cut costs as paper and freight rise. The last 1956 issue is December 28. 1951 first issue dates February 1 with January 29 week start, and no publication in January.
The firm states operations will not close and all job work, subscriptions, and business proceed without interruption. Suspension of the review for four weeks provides more time to fulfill customer requirements and enhance service.
The Roblin Review adds a Heidelberg 10x15 Automatic Job press from the U S zone in Germany, arriving intact and ready to print. Staff note its speed of 5000 per hour and built in features while offering to demonstrate and accept external jobs for short runs.
The Roblin Hospital Aid met in the board room on Tuesday December 5 with 16 members present. Motions passed include awarding an engraved Baby Spoon to the first New Year Baby born at the hospital and allocating $10 for Christmas tree and ward decorations plus $1 per child for Christmas gifts. Donations of candies oranges nuts and other treats to be delivered by December 22. Carollers will visit on Sunday December 24 and the Hospital Aid will handle tea arrangements.
The Makaroff Ladies Aid gathered at Mrs Large’s home for its annual meeting with strong turnout. Secretary Mrs F Grundy reported a successful year and a substantial surplus after commitments. Grants were approved for church 75 Winnipeg Missions 5 Sunday School 10 Christmas tree relief fund 20. Officers elected: President Mrs W A S Beattie Vice President Mrs T Boyce Sec Treas Mrs F Grundy Sewing Mrs H Boyce Sick committee Mrs D Clarke Mrs K Boyce. Lunch followed hosted by Mrs Large Mrs D Clarke and Mrs K Boyce.
The Sunday school of the United Church sponsors a White Gift Service next Sunday. Gifts wrapped in white and marked for boy or girl will be sent to the Winnipeg Institutional Missions for distribution. Gifts need not be new, any toy or usable gift will be accepted.
The Young Peoples Union held a regular meeting at the Manse with Mr Parker organizing the program. Members split into three juries to hear the General Public versus the Soap Operas case arguing it degrades public taste, promotes unreal living, distracts mothers, wastes time, and panders to sentimentality.
The Hughes family welcomed Elizabeth Ann Hughes arriving from Ireland to Roblin. Born December 18 she is two years old. Mr and Mrs Hughes Garry and Brian had visited Ireland last summer and Elizabeth arrived unaccompanied after a 3000 mile air journey.
