Roblin arena opens withIce Follies and royal pageant
The Roblin Skating and Hockey Arena opened on Saturday December 6 with Mayor Geo Kelso cutting the ribbon. The Ice Club of Greater Winnipeg performed on decorated ice followed by the Ice Follies Our Town and Summer Theatre numbers. Miss Bette Kelso was crowned Queen of the Ice Follies and Roblin officials presented a wrist watch to retiring Mayor Kelso. Hospital District No. 2 and a new $95,000 hospital were praised by Margaret Nix of the Provincial Health Department.

Roblin council sets skating fees and passes bylaw

Canada Declares War on Japan After Pearl Harbor
Six years ago on December 7 1941 Canada declared war on Japan hours after the Pearl Harbor attack. The United States and most dominions followed on December 8 with Germany and Italy declaring war on the US by December 11. Canadian troops in Hong Kong endured two weeks of fighting before surrendering on Christmas Day. A total of 555 Canadians, including Brigadier J L Lawson, died in defense or later from malnutrition in Japanese POW camps.
