Labour Minister explains Boxing Day falls on Tuesday December 27 with no Manitoba law mandating closure or premium pay. Offices will close per practice, but employers may open if governed by contract or custom. pay rules depend on employment agreements.
In Roblin Hospital on November 18, a son Mervyn Roy was born to Mr and Mrs Hilton Brumwell. Earlier on November 14, 1960, Mr and Mrs Cecil Hughes welcomed a baby boy Terry Cecil weighing eight pounds at Roblin Hospital.
The Parkland Hockey League formed for the winter season features eight clubs Bredenburg Theodore Melville Kamsack Norquay Pelly Minitonas Inglis and Roblin. All games start 8 30 p.m. CST with playoffs pitting 1 4 and 2 3. Roblin opens with home games Dec 20 and Dec 23 against Bredenburg and Inglis.
Ag Rep meeting in Roblin on November 25 aims to craft non duplicative CKOS-TV programs for the region. Attendees from Walter Boucher to G Arnal draft a four day northern Manitoba tour covering Livestock Housing and Management Beef Cattle Feeding Forage Crops and Soils with regional sponsors contacted for support.
In the fourth session of Canada 24th Parliament the Throne Speech proposes a pre Christmas supplementary budget, CMHC loans for housing and universities, pension increases, rural rehabilitation, water pollution projects, a productivity council, and a western railway survey. Federal grants support technical schools, and a Winnipeg floodway is planned. All parties agreed to shorten Throne Speech debates to proceed with business.
The November meeting of the Tummel Ladies Club met at Ilene McFayden’s home with eight members and two visitors. Officers for 1961 were elected, including President Jo Alexander and Vice President M Buick, with reports from Welfare and Hospital Aid. A December card party was canceled. lunch was served by Bodnaruk and McFayden.
Henry Gamey 87 died after a long illness in Roblin Manitoba on November 21 1960. Funeral Tuesday November 22 at Knox United Church Roblin with Rev R Williams officiating Sneath Funeral Service arranging. Interment Roblin District Cemetery pallbearers Harold Dillin Albert Miller Morgan Kelso Don Black Ralph Ritchie Ron Jakeman. Born Grey County Ontario educated there worked across Ontario until 1915 moved to Roblin district farmed until 1940 retired to Roblin. Married Mabel Hartley 1907 she died 1931 remarried Blanche Coleman November 11 1936. Survived by wife one son George The Pas and seven grandchildren.
Alexander Taylor of Lake Lenore Saskatchewan died October 29 1960 at St Elizabeth's Hospital Humboldt after a stroke. Born August 5 1868 in Scotland he homesteaded at Togo in 1905 later moving to Fulda and Lake Lenore. Survived by daughter Mrs C M Howell Battleford and son Earle Lake Lenore. funeral by Sharf's Funeral Home at Humboldt United Church. Lost bay mare sought by Walter Hawrychuk Roblin Manitoba reward offered.
Gilbert Plains hosts the opening of the 19 room high school and collegiate with 1200 attendees. Dr H H Sanderson of the University of Manitoba speaks on Education in Life as dignitaries present. The ceremony includes ribbon cutting, Britannica dedication, and thanks to contributors.
Rev. and Mrs. Ross Williams visited Regina this week. Mr. and Mrs. A O Purdy spent the weekend with Mrs. H R Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. D H Oliphant and family visited their parental homes in Dauphin on Sunday. Mrs. W Leslar and Mr. and Mrs. J R Mitchell attended the M F A district convention in Dauphin last Tuesday November 22. Leslar was the district delegate and J R Mitchell reported on the C F A annual Toronto trip in January. The convention heard reports from C A McLean district director and Sid Ransom president of the M F A. Many resolutions were approved to be sent to the annual meeting in Winnipeg.
On Grey Cup Day November 26 Grey Cup and Sadie Hawkins party took place at Goose Lake Collegiate Athletic Council. Organizers Yakimishyn Arnott Digby led dances games contests with Ernie Mortemore as master of ceremonies. Corsage judging by Domareski Nowosad won by Patricia McBride. Draw for ten dollars and a Grey Cup awarded to H F Whitmore. Tickets sold by Mitchell Newton while decorations were by Kapetz Funk and lunch by Pound Bodnaruk Kastrukoff.
Mrs G Murray reports on visits by Mr O Wilson and Mr Howard Radford to Bowsman, and Herb Murray with Howard Wilson to Grandview for a District Trustees board meeting. Mrs Gordon Dixon and baby Luis return home from Roblin hospital. Roy Falkiner and family of Kamsack visited the Murray home Sunday.
The Roblin Local of the Manitoba Teachers Society met November 22 at 8:00 p.m. in Roblin Elementary School with 27 members. Michael Styba presented two $20,000 scholarships to Linda Waters and Allen Maslove. A membership committee was formed and discussions covered Social Studies Primary Work and High School courses. Lunch followed adjournment.
The 4-H Leaders Association met at Roblin Memorial Hall on November 24 with 29 present from all clubs. Garry Workman outlined expected behaviors by age, Louise Batho described objectives and by laws, Esther Arndt spoke on Minnesota trip and Mayo Clinic, and Harold Boughton noted university outcomes. Officers elected: Robert Digby president, Ray Murray vice president, Mrs. Graham Mitchell secretary, executives Mrs. Irma Hunter, Mr. J.C. Brook, Mrs. J. Goodbun. Rally day to Russell district for 1961 discussed along with bonspiels jamborees and public speaking.
Mrs Wm Hampson and reporters traveled Wednesday to Brandon to visit Mr and Mrs Stan Penniston while Mr Walter Fedoruk and Rodney McKinnon returned Thursday from Vancouver. Norman and Herb Lee visited Sheldon Jones in Roblin Sunday. Howard Wilson returned Thursday from a Winnipeg convention. Prince Albert residents Mrs Joe Topham and son Joey spent the past week visiting local families James Topham, Robert McKee, and others.
