Blue Cross highlights advantages for Roblin residents including nonprofit status with no sales commissions, service rather than cash, equal family benefits, low operating costs, and extended protection for families after a worker's death. It notes easy admission with ID card, and local leader Mrs. M V Beaven at the Shell River Municipal Office.
A 55 year old bachelor from Shell Valley, Ted Gorda, was crushed when a tractor rolled over on rural land in Bolton municipality. The RCMP reported the accident occurred Monday afternoon. coroner Dr. T S Brownlee said no inquest would be held. Remains were taken to Roblin for funeral in Shell Valley.
Mrs M A Clarke thanks Roblin hospital staff for their kind attention and friends for cards and flowers, plus the Ladies Aid for a basket of treats.
Special attention to Hospital Aid members and all interested to attend Friday August 25 at 3 pm in the hospital. Mr. W Scholney Blue Cross representative will explain the advantages of joining the Hospitalization Plan.
Mr and Mrs G M Helliwell of Roblin celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on August 13 1950. Born in England they married in 1900 in Halifax and moved to Canada in 1903 homesteading near Roblin. Now retired they live in Roblin with one son and two daughters, twelve grandchildren.
Editor and Mrs. J. M. Thom attended the C W N A convention in Winnipeg the Nowosad couple visited Winnipeg and Vic's Motors rep attended a dealers convention. Swaykoski and Ruth, formerly Shortdale farmers, now in Vancouver, renewing acquaintances. Ray Switzer Harvey and Iona returned from a five week vacation to British Columbia visiting Kelowna Princeton Vancouver Lulu Island Spokane and Mission City. Russell beat Roblin Jrs 2 to 0 in Shell Valley finals with Shell Valley and Inglis teams also in the tournament.
A nationwide railway strike halts freight and passenger movement across Canada. Parliament will convene in Ottawa amid hopes for a rapid emergency settlement to avoid severe economic disruption. Fuel and food shortages mount as harvests threaten, with towns like Roblin already feeling impact and schools and theaters facing delays.
Dr F L Skinner served as judge at the Roblin show held August 19 under Roblin W J. A variety of flowers fruit and vegetables were displayed with prizes awarded to numerous exhibitors including Mrs Van Drecht Mrs Geo Kelso Mrs Arnott and Mrs Collins. Bouquets from the Nursery were later sent to the hospital. The W I thanks Dr Skinner exhibitors and helpers.
The Roblin Creamery sponsored cream competition at the Roblin Agricultural Fair drew a record 43 entrants. Top prizes went to Wm Becker of Roblin with 146.1 points, followed by Mrs. P. Dzikowski of Deepdale Man, Mrs. E. Corman of Roblin, Mrs. F. H. Wilson of Togo, and Mrs. Mary Gerega of Deepdale with 145.3 and 144.8 points.
Mrs Henry Watson thanks friends for flowers gifts cards and letters sent during her hospital stay and expresses appreciation for their kindness.
The message thanks many friends for flowers treats and cards while Graham was confined in Deere Lodge hospital and acknowledges care for Hazel and Jimmy by Mr. and Mrs. I L Mitchell. It notes Graham Michell is back home after months of medical attention and mentions Annie Zibreski from Toronto Meteorological Bureau returning after a stay with her parents in Tel Aviv.
