Mrs RoR Watson arrived home Sunday after an extended holiday with her daughters and sons in law. Several relatives visited, including Mr and Mrs Ovila Mireau of Hartney and Mr and Mrs K Hodgsod of Regent. Robert Arnott joined his brother Gordon in Winnipeg before heading to Clin Can for courses. Lorraine Edel left for Selkirk to nurse for three months after a short vacation with her parents. The Switzer family returned to Kelowna after visiting in the district. Several Arnott relatives traveled to Yorkton and Nanaimo for visits, with trips to Silver Beach and Regina noted. Leslie Doole of Dropmore spent a week with his grandparents, and Neepawa visitors joined local hosts for a weekend gathering.

Fire destroys 3 buildings at Mickelson farm
Roblin Volunteer Fire Brigade answered a 5 p.m. alarm on Tuesday August 21 to a blaze six miles south of Roblin at Oliver Mickelson’s farm. Two granaries and a garage burned completely, the house and other buildings were sheltered. No one was home. cause undetermined possibly spontaneous combustion. Mrs. Mickelson said there was no insurance on the destroyed structures.

Employment Up in Dauphin Area Says Office Chief
Mr Ted Teillet manager of the Nations Employment Office at Dauphin reports unemployment in the area fell 18 percent from 1961 to July 1962. Registrations ended July 1962 were 461 versus 445 in July 1961 with gains mainly in construction. There were 69 male and 57 female applications from Dauphin. others came from Swan River Roblin Wainnipegusis and Ste Rose. He notes a steady employment rise since winter driven by seasonal factors and broader Canadian economic gains.

Shell River council meeting held Wednesday August 8 1962
The Rural Municipality of Lee River held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday August 8 1962 with Deputy Reeve Irwin Edel presiding and councillors Watson Eld er and Styba in attendance. Minutes from July 4 were approved and accounts totaling 9533.89 were approved for payment. By laws on grasshopper control tax sale certificate and tax sale date were read and passed. Reeve Wilson chaired later business on bridge construction with no further government grant expected for the NE 27 27 29 bridge over twenty years. Next meeting set for September 5 at 10 am. A Manitoba 4H supervisor details a weeklong trip with 38 club members touring North Dakota Minnesota South Dakota and Nebraska host farms. They met Extension staff in Jamestown enjoyed Grand Island fairs and irrigation farms at Kearney, visited processing plants and fairgrounds, observed cattle feeding economics and costs, toured Bismarck Capitol and Garrison Dam, and returned via customs, ending with appreciation from Marion Hunter who will report back.

First Ace Scored At Golf Course
Roblin Community Golf Course recorded its first ever hole in one on Wednesday August 1. Robt Shepherd used a three iron on the Par 3 No 5 hole to ace the 158 yard shot. Iris Shepherd witnessed from the hill as a three-some paused on the sixth tee. He will receive the Hole In One Trophy donated by Geo Giles. Congratulations to Bob and Iris on this milestone at Roblin Course.

A reunion of the Grade VIII class from Wyndham school Deepdale was held in Vancouver on Sunday August 12. Mrs J C Ward could not attend due to ill health but former pupils visited her. All living members were present except Mrs Marion Jolliffe Beecher. Mrs Bodtcher hosted a dinner and a congratulatory birthday note was sent to Mrs Beecher whose birthday is August 14. 80 Arborg District Residents Participate In Roblin Tour
A joint tour by North Star Co op Creamery and Ag Rep Bill Lambert drew eighty Arborg district residents to Roblin on August 15. The escorted itinerary included stops at Clear Lake, Skinner’s Nursery, Roblin Co op Creamery, Roblin Forest Products, Duck Mountain Forest Products, and the Assiniboine Valley, with meals at the Hilton and a return via Gilbert Plains. Local officials and business representatives welcomed the group and praised regional collaboration.

Watch Tower Assembly Held At Brandon Arena
A M Didur addressed a record 3162 attendees on the final day of the Courageous Ministers District Assembly at Brandon Wheat City Arena. Delegates from as far south as Denver heard Bible discourses as Jehovahs Witnesses filled hotels campsites and private homes. The three day event featured 64 baptismal candidates in YMCA pool and volunteers ran meals for over 3000 daily. Sigurd Olsen praised the gathering as a grand assembly.

First Wheat Delivered To Elevators Here In 1962
On Tuesday August 21 the first wheat of the 1962 crop year was delivered to the Pool Elevator run by Lawrence Dietrich. Sixty bushels of Selkirk wheat were brought in by Nick Pitz who farms near Roblin. Earl Mickelson and Fred Eslinger delivered the first Fall Rye to the Roblin Pool Elevators on August 15. Harvesting is becoming general and many loads of grain will enter the elevators soon.

Record Number Of Entries At Roblin Horticultural Show
The Roblin Horticultural Society hosted its third annual show at the Roblin Skating Rink on Friday August 17. A total of 600 entries filled two tables while a third showcased 4-H Garden Club exhibits. Judges Mrs Blanche Brown and Mr Stan Gugin praised the quality of flowers, arrangements, vegetables, and fruit. Mrs Alice Tummon led with the most entries in flowers, while Miss Emma Macdonald had the most in vegetables. Tea was served by the ladies, and a later auction of flowers and vegetables was held by Charles Filewicn and Jack Mitchell. A full prize-winner list will appear in a future issue.
