Agricultural engineers at the University of Manitoba advise using Bluestone copper sulfate to control summer algae on Manitoba water surfaces. Apply 4 pounds of copper sulfate per standard dugout, adjust for alkaline water, and reapply every three weeks in July and August to prevent winter decay and odor.
Manitoba highways report 110 large white fibreglass Orbit litter receptacles along the province with the Trans-Canada leading at ten in 1965. By spring the count rose to 210 units and litter bag dispensers were added. About 1,000,000 litter bags were ordered this year and no new orbits are planned. The program gains international publicity though the department says litter reduction is not precisely measurable.
