Bears and other wildlife threaten rural homes near Watson

Kate and Luke Wickenhauser near Watson faced a near bear encounter at 3:30 AM when a large black bear pressed to their bedroom window. Footprints indicated a 2 1/2 year old bear. Nearby, Rob Zimmer shot a bear near Stockholm to protect children. Wildlife officers blame human habits like garbage and pet food for close bear sightings. A separate incident in Baldur involved a 14 year old bitten by a skunk near a tent, prompting rabies injections over 28 days.
