Kosher Halal Markets Seen as Opportunity for Manitoba Beef
Manitoba beef producers can tap growing kosher and halal markets, says minister Stan Struthers. A Interpac Inc study notes rising demand driven by Jewish and Muslim dietary laws, with new suppliers and product types like marinated meats and deli items. The Canada halal market is about 214 million and kosher beef around 130 million, signaling room for competition and specialized processing. Manitoba’s MAFRI will link producers with sales channels, noting high costs and frozen availability. Local leaders from Jewish Federation of Winnipeg and Canadian Islamic Chamber of Commerce back the findings and call for certified, quality halal meat access.
