Seventeenth Shell River Agricultural Fair at Roblin

The seventeenth annual Shell River Agricultural Society fair was held at Roblin with rain and sun breaks. Large attendance from nearby districts watched livestock judging and prize awards across classes including Clydesdale Percheron draft cattle dairy and poultry with winners named like T J Kelly Geo B Mitchell and Ed Jakeman across many divisions.

Robling Locals and Town News Update

Mr Alf Day left Monday for a general store position in Beresford Mun. Mrs Bailes of Winnipeg visits the Yeos. Grace Waggoner of Minnedosa visits town. Union Church services next Sunday led by Rev Mr Bailey. C Mitchell of Red Deer Alberta renewing acquaintances. Mr and Mrs Kennedy of McNutt return from the Old Country. Dr Clarence MacKinnon moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada will speak at Union Church Monday at 8 p.m.

Merridale visit and steer wrestling noted at exhibition

Mr. Watson of Bidd paid a business visit. John and Earnest Cockerill staged a steer wrestling contest rivaled only by the radio at the big exhibition. The crop runs late this season and cutting is delayed.

Deepdale People Travel and Visits Across Manitoba

DEEPDALE F E Bryan went to Winnipeg on Thursday. Mr and Mrs J Trickett spent last week at the home of Mr and Mrs Harrop Roblin. Mrs George Day and son of Roblin visiting Mrs J Trickett. Catherine Bray of Ken ton visiting aunt Mrs J D McLaren. Mrs Mitchell and daughter of Tummel visited Mr and Mrs D Mitchell. Russell Dunlap returned home after an appendicitis illness at Dauphin Hospital. Howard Dunlap left for Cleveland Ohio. Mr and Mrs George Ward and sons Robert and Walter with Mrs Matthews motored to Rolla North Dakota last week, pleasant trip reported. Leon Jolliffe and sisters Mrs A Grundy Miss Helen Miss D Beecher motored to Winnipeg returning Saturday with Mr and Mrs Vic Beecher. Mrs Horace Ayer and daughters visiting at Taylor Dauphin, returned Friday morning.

Local notes show visits, exams, and a cemetery clean up

Mr Allan Tripp spent a few days in Winnipeg this week while Mr W St Kaiser shipped cattle to the Winnipeg market on Monday. Mrs Wesley Thompson and Mr Glen Thompson are visiting in Russell. Richard Topham returned home after two weeks at Rochester. Eva Greenitan succeeded at entrance exams. congratulations to her. Union Church Sunday School picnic was well attended and enjoyed. Willie Holliday passed entrance exams and congratulations are extended. Thursday afternoon August 21 will be clean up day at Togo cemetery with refreshments provided by the ladies.

Roblin Fair News and Local Visits

A note from the district reports many attended the Roblin Fair. Mrs Howorth of Calgary visits her sister Mrs Armstead during holidays. Mr and Mrs J D Fogg and family visited Mr and Mrs A R Lade. Mr and Mrs C V Franklin and family with Mr and Mrs B M Hare were guests of Mr and Mrs H Horsnell. Miss Hall from Winnipeg, a public health nurse, spoke on first aid and home nursing though attendance was low.

Makaroff notes social and church events this week

Mrs Clifford Snedden visits friends while Mrs Walker and Miss Olive Davis return from Winnipeg after attending Boys and Girls Club demonstrations. A joint Ladies Aid meeting for Silverwood Deepdale and Makaroff is planned for August 20. Congregational meeting decided to seek an ordained minister as Mr J McNeil leaves in September. Mr Beattie hosts a birthday party with a long party night. Ladies Aid met August 5 and planned fall Bazaar and funded Fresh Air Camp at Gimli for Winnipeg mothers and children.

Community Notes and Meetings at Grand Narrows

Mr Hugh Staines returned to Moose Jaw last week while Mr Alvin Knight traveled to Roblin on business. Miss Wilson returned from holidays and will rest. The ratepayers held their annual meeting Aug 4 electing Mrs A C McKnight as treasurer. Divine service Aug 10 in A F M Hall by Mr Weaver and Mrs Weaver with Miss Mary. Heavy rain postponed Memorial School vs Grand Narrows baseball. next Wednesday hoped. Public Health Nurse Miss Hall visited, spoke on Home Nursing, first aid, and child welfare, with 85 in attendance and thanks from the community.
