Trichomoniasis affects cattle bred in shared pastures
A cattle disease warning notes trichomoniasis as a venereal infection spread during breeding. Although not widespread locally, outbreaks in Ethelbert and McCreary PFRA pastures raise producer concerns for bulls used in community pastures. The parasite lives in the reproductive tracts and 90 percent of cows serviced by an infected bull become infected, risking embryonic loss and abortion.

Trichomoniasis disease and farm management tips
Trichomoniasis often has no symptoms and spreads until reproductive issues surface. Prevention centers on using only clean bulls and testing bulls for the trich test, aided by herd management such as controlling breeding, culling late calvers, and keeping a young bull battery. Local measures at Cote-San Clara PFRA require negative trich tests and calves at delivery or in calf cows. consult a local veterinarian for tests and guidance. April 12 AIDA meeting.
