Roblin farmer survives April Fools fire scare
On Friday April 1 a Roblin farmer Alen Martin received a call saying his house was on fire. He suspected a prank but the alarm proved real. The Roblin Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived within minutes and extinguished the blaze, though the roof suffered considerable damage.

New Vet For Roblin Applies To District Livestock Owners

Dr. Harald Hortig, D.V.M., will reside on the Jakeman farm near Roblin on Highway No. 5 awaiting establishment before April 15. A surprise party was held Saturday at the home of Mr and Mrs Jack Alexander for their 40th wedding anniversary celebrated with about thirty guests. Youth Group Attends Communion Breakfast
The Roblin Ukrainian Catholic Youth Club held a weekend retreat April 1 3 with about thirty five youths from Roblin Swan River Benito and surrounding rural districts. Father Dzurman led conferences and a Communion Breakfast followed at the Hotel Coffee Shop. The Ukrainian Catholic Women provided a bountiful meal and the event closed with group photos and a later meeting featuring singing lessons by Mrs Wolochaduk.

Saskatchewan man killed by ore car at Thompson nickel mine
A 38-year-old man from Togo Saskatchewan was struck and killed Sunday evening by an ore-carrying car at the Thompson nickel mine. He was walking on the 1,000-foot level of No 2 shaft and employed by Midwest Diamond Drilling Co. An inquest opened in Thompson by coroner M J McPhee.

Three School Contracts Set by Intermountain Board
The Intermountain School Division Board announced tenders for three school projects in Roblin, Gilbert Plains, and the Grandview High School addition. Clayton Construction Limited of Winnipeg submitted Roblin High School bid at 356,900 dollars.
