Mardenis Elevator Burns in Late Night Fire
Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Mardenis elevator owned by Ed S Brown near midnight. Huntington firemen halted the blaze with chemicals as the complex and office contents were consumed. The facility held oats and wheat, coal, fertilizer, oil, and feed valuing the loss at over 18 thousand dollars. another nearby building burned, but adjacent structures survived with wind aiding spread control. A L Vickery, elevator manager, tried to rescue records but failed.

Mrs. Eldon Richards Mrs. Noel Richards and Mrs. Lloyd D Ward hosted the Pastime Club and their husbands at a 2 Halloween party in FE E Richards barn. Guests arrived masked and crawled through a small opening into the barn decorated with jack o lanterns corn fodder and leaves. Glen and Ted Hartley piloted their Fronty Ford to two wins and a second in Sunday Rochester auto events. Ted won the ten mile race in 11 minutes 38 1 5 seconds, Goltry of Roann second in 11 41 4 5. Glen finished second in the fifteen mile race after tire trouble, Goltry taking first in 13 36 43. Ted’s twenty five mile victory came in 30 minutes even as Goltry followed in 30 7 seconds.
